Danp Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 My wife needs a new phone, her current one has random issues with charging and the odd moment of software randomness that winds up both up (wifi turns on by itself even when in airplane mode). She has a Sony Xperia X Compact and the compact is the key point, she likes smaller phones but wants a decent camera and there are not many small phones out anymore. The natural upgrade would be the Xperia ZX2 Compact but it's slightly larger (not enough for it to be an problem) but it's a year old already. Is anyone aware of suitable replacement? I've tried the search options on gsmarena.com and I'm not finding anything that grabs me.

It's not that much bigger than the XZ2 Compact and has the same camera as the £739 Pixel 3 (which is still among the best of any Android smartphone). Localtechie Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 (edited) I know it's probably too big to use but the Mi 9 is 449 euros so £390 at the moment from Amazon Spain with a fee free card like revolut, monzo etc. Absolutely outstanding phone - fast in use and in wireless charging tech, great cameras and it's a real looker with the colour changing effect back. Much better value then a 3a imo. It's making me want to switch from my Note 9 but I haven't pulled the trigger (yet!) after using a friends. Edited May 14, 2019 by Localtechie

Eh, call me old fashioned but I prefer to have my backups done manually, without eating up data allowances That way I control where, how, and when they're stored. I can't imagine how much data cloud backups must eat up for people (especially young'uns) who photograph umpteen things a day. Probably not a big issue where data is bundled per gigabyte, though.

You can set it to only back up on wifi

My card is full of films and music. That's why I want a crad slot, although besides that the Pixel 3a looks good. Need something to replace my S8, with it's blurry camera!

I'll happily save hundreds on a phone and only use the camera only for note-taking. Meanwhile, my best camera will live at home most days, along with lots of nice pictures up on the walls that I took with it.
