Personally addressed electioneering from the Brexit Party

Mr gee40 is distinctly unimpressed to receive unsolicited communication from the Brexit Party through Royal Mail personally addressed to him at our home address.

 

Given that he definitely has never consented for his name and address to be used in this way, and that our names are not on the public version of the electoral role, has the Brexit Party been flouting GDPR?

 

To be clear, this isn’t a leaflet shoved through the letterbox by the party faithful. This has his name and address on it.

We got one, addressed to my gf. All of the pictures on it were stretched out of proportion and it looked like it got written in Word by a six year old. If an organisation can’t even produce a leaflet properly, how the hell can they be trusted to represent us in a parliament?

We've received personally addressed things today but from the Conservatives (basically "Look at all these parties blocking our Brexit deal, boo hiss"). We're also not on whichever register it is you can opt out of. Presumably the parties have access to the same list that the electoral people sending out the polling cards use.

 

Disappointing though considering GDPR etc that we don't appear to be able to control who has access to our data!

He is registered, but the box is ticked for us not to be on the public version. I thought was what you meant.

No. The public version is available to buy. The full version - everyone registered to vote - is available to MPs, Political parties, councils, law enforcement agencies and credit agencies.

Anyways, the joy of of SAR is that they have to respond within 40 days. Even if their reason to send it was lawful, they still have to respond to the SAR ... and if they get enough then perhaps they’ll rethink their marketing in future.

Yeah I wonder about the wisdom of personally naming them. Aint nobody going to believe they really are writing to you personally but a whole bunch of people will react as you've done and wonder how and why they got your details.

Also completely wasteful - why does everybody in the house need their own personal copy of the leaflet when one per house has always been sufficient?

Are they now a party? Or is it the other lot that are registered as a company? I've lost track I'm afraid.

usually the first person on the register gets the first piece of election material, and then if a second one is sent (often is during a GE) the second person on the register at that address is used... i believe all parties get a free delivery or 2 from royal mail during an election...
