Simcfc73 Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Hi, I've been recommended a Hikvision DS-9632NI-I8 to replace an old coax CCTV box. Has anyone got one or a similar spec that can give me some tips or advice on it.
MkII Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 We've got the 9664 Works well although locks up every few weeks which a reboot fixes. Shame that can't be scheduled. Staff constantly lose access to camera streams although I can still get to them, so I'm still having to get involved until I work out the issue. Motion capture mode is known to just miss sometimes. I have ours set to constantly record during school hours. Setting H.265 over H.264 although supposedly much more space efficient causes more CPU overload than these units can take. Informed opinion is that you need to spend thousands more on a professional rig to reap those benefits. H.264 is much more convenient to work with on standard video players and editors, and space isn't an issue for us so we're happy with that.

Then we upgraded to latest firmware when I noticed it was out and it works a dream now, all cameras on latest firmware too. However the IVMS-4200 software is a bit laggy sometimes and on our standard staff computers cannot show a load of cameras at once otherwise cpu overloads. But works fine on our IT support rigs which are higher spec. We run the two nics on the back as separate networks (cctv network and server network) so that the traffic is separated nicely while we have quite a number of people reviewing cctv at some points.
FishCustard Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 The software is okay at best, and don't even think about their web viewer (requires old plugins that don't work in anything but IE, and even then barely). I'm working on a better web viewer which I'll open source when done. Cameras themselves are solid, but clearly they cheaped out on software engineering. 1

It's not a client-server, so each client PC has the full software with its own user database controlled by its own admin password. Should be a client that connects to the NVR and uses the central admin password for auth and to manage users centrally. We've turned off motion-detection as it causes crashing/jumping on the video. Had some friendly chaps smash their car through our fence with police in hot pursuit; the car suddenly appeared on screen seconds after the chaps were out of the car running, so police couldn't prove who was driving. 1

Updated to the latest firmware and having all sorts of issues. It looks like anything past V4.1.63_190111 isn't good and Hikvision have withdrawn the updates officially. Currently can't load any web pages :'(

We have two DS-9632NI-I8 units which are both running firmware V4.1.64 build 190119. Our iVMS-4200 is V2.8.1.4 build 20181124. Cameras running at least firmware V5.4.5 build 170124. Hope this helps. Simcfc73 Posted October 24, 2019 Author Posted October 24, 2019 Just an update, I went for the DS-7732NI-I4 / 16P(B) which I am now trying to configure but hitting a few snags. The POE ports at the back, can these be used for just connecting a switch to a different building which has cameras on it... for example on a separate switch network. I have plugged in a camera to the POE and set the IP and it works, I add a switch directly to it and it still works. I try one in a different site linked by a similar switch and it doesn't connect. Not sure why it doesn't work. Quite pleased as I spent half the morning getting a cheapo Samsung analog to digital 4 port convertor to work... but it doesn't work in the POE ports. I've read some posts about change the POE ports away from auto to manual but my box doesn't have that.
