Localtechie Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 (edited) Hi all move this desk over the half term and was greeted to this horror show of cables which I assume are telephone related but not 100%. Anyone know which faceplate / covering I need so I can hide them and protect them as best as possible? Thanks Edited April 29, 2019 by Localtechie
localzuk Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 I would suggest you'll struggle to find anything to cover that now - its a very old wall box - I'd guess its even made of bakelite. I'd say your best bet would be to carefully remove the back and get a normal modern 1 gang backbox and blanking plate to put over it.
achedgy Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 I'd just get an electronics project box, cut out part of the back and put right over the top it with a nice label on saying what it contains (or you think it contain!!!)

If you don't you could just cut them off and fix the hole? Otherwise I'd agree with the idea of getting a modern box and putting it over that mess.
strawberry Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 In my experience that would warrant a new office or a stud wall being put in!. Best of luck finding something!
Localtechie Posted April 29, 2019 Author Posted April 29, 2019 Luckily the cable goes to a now unused fax port so I am going to be delicate and try and get the cable mess out but if I can't and it needs cutting so be it. I do have a blanking plate for a network port so just going to use that instead - thanks all for confirming that it isn't a off the box solution as I expected.
localtech Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 Best bet would be a cheap project box unless you are SURE that none of the cables are in use could be part of the Red Care alarm or anything to do with BT
bushby Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 if you have a 3d printer just nock up a dirty cover give it a coat of paint then bam just like new

Our fax line is actually shared with the alarm system, and it would be very hard to tell that from the socket end, or anywhere near it. Cut with caution!
Localtechie Posted April 29, 2019 Author Posted April 29, 2019 (edited) Cheers all spoke to the BM and they are happy for it to just be covered with anything so looking for a plastic covering that can be used (current suggestions are a ice cream tub or food container) Edited April 29, 2019 by Localtechie
glen_j Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 Could always remove the plastic rear box by carefully cutting and replace with something like this. should have enough space to conceal all the wires. https://www.screwfix.com/p/wagobox-xla-junction-box/412ft
