To be fair, the PC was reasonably priced thanks to @ICTDirect_Dave and one of his marvelous sales and none of the monitors I have were actually bought for me; The 4 4:3 screens were from classrooms, the 2 widescreen Samsungs were from old front office machines and the AOC was bought as a test for the music department (which they never followed through on anyway).

I may have spent a lot of money on the graphics card though...

After spending 5 years on a Dell XPS with decent specs at the time (3rd Gen i7/8GB RAM) - it kept crashing frequently. We managed to wangle a deal with our bursar to let us purchase the components separately and build the machine ourselves to save cash (it was the only way we could get new machines!). Now we're rocking:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X

RAM: 16GB Corsair DDR4

Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H-CF

SSD: Samsung 970 EVO M.2 NVMe 250GB

HDD: WD 1TB

Went down the AMD route as in general workloads, it out-performs it's more expensive Intel counterparts.

Thanks to @ICTDirect_Dave and his Xmas compo, I'm rocking

Though I stuck in the VTX AMD Radeon HD 7770 Xedition I had in another machine as I wanted to keep my 3 (small, 4:3) monitors.

My machines at my other 2 sites are detailed in the terrifying/heartbreaking tale in that thread with a GFX card swap.
