ICTDirect_Dave Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Goooooood Afternoon EduGeek! After you all enjoyed my offer of a low-priced Xeon Workstation for your very own use, I figured, why not put some other deals together. Here's the first of the month... HP Proliant DL380e Gen8 2U server http://www.ict-direct.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/h/p/hp-dl380e-gen8.jpg This lovely server boats a pair of 8-core Xeon Processors, 96 GB RAM, 2 x 300GB SAS HDD for your OS & 16 x 600GB SAS HDD for storage. It comes with a pair of PSUs so you can be sure it'll stay on. A quad port gigabit RJ-45 nic AND a dual Port 10 gigabit SFP+ nic as well! All the connectivity you could possibly need. If you need get copper twinax cable to link these to your switches, let me know and I'll be sure to throw a couple in. Oh and I'm doing these with a 3 year warranty as standard! Now... How much are they I hear you ask? Well they're a steal at £1,250 per unit, but it gets better if you take two or more as they come down to a paltry £1,150 each. How can you refuse? Unlike last time, there's no limit to how many each school can buy, but I've only got 120 of them so you'll need to be quick. Similar to last time, you've got until the end of the month to place an order or get a quote. And when we've sold these that it I'm afraid. So what are you waiting for? Get them whilst they're hot! Quick note to anyone still awaiting a quote from yesterday on the Z620's, I will get you one at the offer price, I'm just running a little behind 3
3s-gtech Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Having bought one of these in DL380p G8 guise, I can confirm that it's lovely! That's an awesome price 1
fiza Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 It's a shame it's rack mount. I need something for our Primary School but they don't have any racks. Current server is a Tower.
3s-gtech Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Rack to tower conversion kit is available. It includes an angle grinder and a piece of wood to prop it upright 4
bald_pig Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 It's a shame it's rack mount. I need something for our Primary School but they don't have any racks. Current server is a Tower. Same here!
bald_pig Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Put it on a shelf??? The shelf is only big enough for a tower
ICTDirect_Dave Posted March 1, 2019 Author Posted March 1, 2019 Damn you & you tower servers! Fortunately, I have just the thing... RackSolutions 1/2U Wall Mountable Rack Cabinet - RackSolutions - Rack Solutions - Servers - ICT Direct - distributors of branded refurbished computer hardware to UK schools and colleges. - ICT Direct All you need is a little wall space!
ICTDirect_Dave Posted March 1, 2019 Author Posted March 1, 2019 How much to swap those drives for SSDs? £money! Honestly, I don't know, I'd have to ask for some pricing. However, if you let me know what size drives you want in there I'll let you know. This chassis supports up to 25 drives, so by all means... go crazy
fiza Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Damn you & you tower servers! All you need is a little wall space! Unfortunately wall space in the IT Suite is also limited.
Ditto Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 I was going to jest, but it appears ceiling mounted racks really are a *thing* . Don't tell us ceiling space is limited - I expect you've got strings of carefully crafted primary school artefacts hanging!
ICTDirect_Dave Posted March 1, 2019 Author Posted March 1, 2019 Unfortunately wall space in the IT Suite is also limited. Why put it in the it suite at all? I've got several schools who have these wallmount racks scattered around the site in various cleaning cupboards.
bald_pig Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Why put it in the it suite at all? I've got several schools who have these wallmount racks scattered around the site in various cleaning cupboards. This one-upping is getting ridiculous now, but... The school I'm in right now has the main switch cupboard off of the disabled toilet, there's no other door to it! Oh, and I checked, that server was a ML350p Gen8 1
bald_pig Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Scratch that, checked the wrong server, it's a Dell T30!
Alis_Klar Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 Does anyone know if this server is supported by the HP SmartStart that will let you have Windows 2016? Also what is the iLO situation with older gen servers?
3s-gtech Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 Don’t know exactly, but it’ll run Server 2016 absolutely fine. Don’t think I even added any extra drivers.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted March 4, 2019 Author Posted March 4, 2019 Does anyone know if this server is supported by the HP SmartStart that will let you have Windows 2016? Also what is the iLO situation with older gen servers? Not sure about the Smart Start on the 380e, though I know it's present on the 380p so it's likely to be on both. As for ILO. Specs say this: HP ProLiant Onboard Administrator (powered by the HP Integrated Lights-Out 4 management processor) 1
skell Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 This seems like a no brainier for DR recovery with hyperv replication. Just need to run it by my boss. 1
Chris_ Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Does anyone know if this server is supported by the HP SmartStart that will let you have Windows 2016? Also what is the iLO situation with older gen servers? I can't answer about the SmartStart question. I made a bootable Server 2019 USB stick and it installed fine on a DL380e. iLO 4 works fine too. 1

supportman Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Having bought one of these in DL380p G8 guise, I can confirm that it's lovely! That's an awesome price Whats the noise level like?
ICTDirect_Dave Posted March 4, 2019 Author Posted March 4, 2019 Cleaning cupboard! What is this amature hour, staff toilet all the way! I couldn't say that all those airborne faecal particles would do to the poor thing though! Whats the noise level like? Being a rack server it's not quiet, but it's no louder than any other 2U server.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted March 7, 2019 Author Posted March 7, 2019 *bump* There must still be a few of you who would like to take advantage of this lovely offer
