Gongalong Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Hi folks, We've got an Epson EB-X11 that doesn't produce any red. I've plugged a couple of different fully wired VGA cables into the back of the projector, still no red. Is it possible that the lamp is at fault? I'm guessing not, because I doubt they have separate red, green, and blue parts. My guess is the projector is faulty. Thanks

ColonelPanic Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 We've got a number of X11s here, and none of them have ever suddenly dropped a single colour! We've had convergence/colour alignment issues with the older projectors (EB-X9s) though. First thing is to try without any input, and see if the menu displays correctly. Second thing is to swap out the lamp if you have any other projectors, but I would suspect the projector is faulty. 2

DrBeaker Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Epson EB-X11 - brilliant, cheap and reliable projectors. Installed god knows how many of them at one school. That's what made me choose Epson as my preferred brand. But yeah if it wasn't the lamp or a dodgy cable, it sounds like a fault with the projector itself. Due to how old those ones are now it's probably better to just replace the thing. We got probably 5-6x years of service out of them and I think that's pretty fair. 1

Reading above you stated the projector is 7-years old? That's a generation of main school students plus 2! I'd say you've had fair use out of the projector at this point. At one school I audited the entire projectors and identified which ones had problems. Eventually we got it agreed after a certain amount of years we'd just replace it, it was far easier that way. We had some 7-year old computers start to blow up - no-one wanted to come in and fix them even if they were paid to replace the damaged components! Bear in mind - you're not talking about a car here, you're talking about a device that has an average lifespan of 3-5 years. 1

My question really is just whether I try replacing the lamp, although I was 99% sure that lamp wasn't the cause. Unfortunately our maintenance/replacement budget went out the window when the government failed to address inflation...

SamanthaD Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Can you check with a composite or USB source? It may be the VGA connector on the projector has an issue, rather than a cable. Also do the menus look discoloured? If composite or USB still gives no red, 99% sure it's the LCD. 1
synaesthesia Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Won't be the lamp, it's just a "white" light source and has no impact on colours unless they start burning but then they go very yellow. And agreed, we stick to Epson's and they're lovely. We're still rocking a buttload of X5's! 1

We junked the Epson X5-e's about July 2017 according to my notes and replaced with Epson EB-X27's. The quick corner feature on the X-11's was outstanding at the time! 1
localzuk Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Jeez - how old are those now? Shipped between 2007 and 2009. Positively spritely compared to one we replaced last year - an EMP-52. Otherwise known as the Powerlite 52c. Was bought in 2002.

The S6/S7's haven't been so great - lamps tend to fail around 1,500 hours. X-11's have been much better, with lamps going beyond 4,000 hours. As far as I can remember this is the first one with a fault. Going to replace with an EH-TW650 (15,000:1 contrast version) as Windows 10 is so rubbish at coping with projectors that aren't full HD.

I was able to swap a lamp out and it made no difference. Replaced with an EH-TW650 for now (which definitely has freeze!).
