Oaktech Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 We've got a bought copy of MLS Junior Librarian from 2012 that works just fine and we're perfectly happy with, but we would like to put it on an additional computer. I've spoken to MLS (now part of Capita) this morning who have said that we are licensed to put it on as many PCs as we like, however... We can't find the installer and if you pick up the existing program folder and put it somewhere new it complains about requiring an update. Capita say they have neither the update or the original source installer as they only provide support for the librarian.net hosted version of the software which is A) eleventy billion pounds a year. B) slow. So... Does anyone have an installer for MLS Junior Librarian versions between 3.2.2.30 and 4.5?

LeMarchand Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 Sorry! Did some housekeeping a while ago. Never tried this, so it may not work, but could you P2V the machine, update the VM and then sysprep it and load onto another machine?

Meant to reply yesterday. You've probably done the research now but you could convert the physical machine to a virtual one (P2V) and then update the virtual one to whatever OS you want, check if stuff still works and, if it does, use sysprep to prepare the system for use on a new machine.* However, unless you already have Hyper-V set up along with WDS (Windows Distribution System?) or similar and Volume Licensing, it's a lot of setting up and a bit of a learning curve! (But useful in the future). IIRC there are paid solutions that claim to be able to restore to different hardware. I'd also recommend another library solution. My schools use Libresoft, which is much better and cloud-based so will work on pretty much any device. I have had it on a "Kiosk" OS (Porteus) but, for various reasons, have moved to Windows + OpenKiosk for the "Library" machines. Other library systems are available. *We no longer use "images" but just install Windows using WDS and software gets added in automatically later, so this may not be the correct order. 1

Our installation CD is scratched and it the software doesn't seem to be downloadable on the net. This thread is the most promising result I can find on Google.
