  1. Hi JRA This is my layout below, it only pins to task bar but your welcome to copy it and modify Thanks
  2. Hi all, Does anyone know why the FMS Equipment Register would not update room names from SIMS? I have a site where classroom have been renamed in SIMS but when the FMS equipment register is loaded, it does not request any updates from SIMS. Can this update be run manually in any way? Thanks
  3. Thanks Guys, I have re punched the face plate downstairs and its now working. I should have more faith in myself
  4. Hi Steve, Yes both faceplates follow the same standard A in this case I think? I will check tomorow that I have punched them correctly, been colour blind I do sometimes muck up my cables! Thanks Rob
  5. Hi All, I haven’t done much structured cabling so I am after some help, I live in a circa 1920’s house which has a solid brick wall construction so Wi-Fi is a major pain in the behind for me at the moment, I have a Netgear Nighthawk AP that I have installed roughly central to our living space, so it should cover all our bedrooms, dining room, living room and kitchen. I have a cable running from my main comm's area to upstairs both cables have a RJ45 face plate on (more info below) I followed the punch pattern on both plates (admittedly knowing this probably wouldn’t work) so I need to know where I have gone wrong, if you could please advise 😊 Cable route is: Switch > RJ45 plate (downstairs) > RJ45 plate (upstairs) > Nighthawk AP Both RJ45 plates are punched as follows Pin 1 – Orange / White 2 – Orange 3 – Green / White 4 – Blue 5 – Blue / White 6 – Green 7 – Brown / White 8 – Brown Cable tester shows my that all pins have successfully crimped, so I have done something wrong with the ordering of them! Thanks 😊 Rob
  6. Hi Chris, These hosts are new, less than a year. I will check for Firmware updates again during the summer holidays but they were all up to date the last time I checked. All Hops are at 1000, I made it my mission to have all 10/100 switching and connections sorted before the summer holidays, the only 100 connections I have now are to printers which still don't have 10/100/1000 NIC's in them, not much I can do about that really. I may lower the resources to see if it makes any difference, but the likelihood of adding more hosts is very slim, Sophos, SIMS are now / going to be cloud based so its more likely I will be turning VM's off. Thanks
  7. Hi Chris, There's nothing in EV to indicate any issues, in terms of Load DC uses 25% of RAM and 0-10% of CPU, MIS uses 50-80% of RAM and 10-20% of CPU so there more then comfortable. All switching is 10/100/1000 HP un-managed Hi XiJ, Yes they are mechanical, unfortunately SSD's are one of the first things to go when savings are needed to be made! however its a standard build I have the same setup in other sites that do not replicate the issues I have at others. Hi Jcx500, The majority of my sites already use more resources than this, It may be possible when SIMS moves to the cloud, but not while its local.
  8. Hi all, I have a few sites that have VM's as their DC and MIS Servers sat on a nice beefy Host, Host's by rule are: 2 x 16 Core Xeon Processors 64GB RAM 4 NIC in 1 Team A few of them offer really poor performance when in the GUI but data transfer rate for network shares, and logon / folder redirection are all running nicely, particularly poor are load times when I restart the VM's , one of my DC's often takes up to 20 Minutes to load and iSCSI Backup data transfer rates, incremental backups are OK but the 2 week full backup often takes more than 48 Hours to complete a 1.2TB Backup, I i usually set resources as follows: DC - 16 Cores and 32GB RAM MIS - 4 Cores and 16GB RAM Leaving 12 Cores and 12GB RAM for the Host. Am I over doing it with the resources? And would it have a bearing on my perfornamce issues above? Thanks
  9. Thanks for your feedback I have no idea what the overall length is, but its not going to be close to 100m, much less. Also the Cisco switch wouldn't be used to boot the signal to the HP switch that sits 2 inches below it I will get my tester out when I next visit site, but it wont be for a few weeks yet. Thanks
  10. Hi all, I have a bit of a head scratcher for you I have an up-link from a HP ProCurve in Cab A to Cab B which links in to a Cisco 2960 switch which then links in to another HP ProCurve switch, all the Cisco is doing is bridging the 2 switch's and bringing the entire network down to 100Mb while its sat there doing sweet naff all else, however if I link the Cab A up-link patch directly in to the ProCurve bypassing the Cisco (and going ProCurve to ProCurve), I have no connectivity at all and have to link the Cisco back in to the loop, I really cant understand why? I'm sure the HP's are auto sensing so cabling shouldn't be an issue? has anyone got any ideas? Thanks Rob
  11. Unfortunately not, we have restarted during the day quite a few times to see the data retained, the data is only lost overnight, but there is nothing special set to run overnight. Thanks!
  12. Sorry for the delayed response, been swamped this past week! Everything is local to the Library machine, which is cabled to the network, the only thing that isn't local is the backup, that writes to a shared folder on the DC. Also, there's nothing recent in the recycle bin, its all from Sept 2018 when the Y6 leavers were removed. Looks like ill try re installing the whole thing in the morning, restore the backup and hope it works, it dosn't make any sense, its like the data is just disappearing in to thin air over night. Thanks!
  13. Ha! That's the answer I don't want Staff member has data on she want's wouldn't be that bothered if I didn't know the code... but i do!!! Thanks
  14. Unfortunately no, I only get the Update & Restore option, plugging in to a PC or Mac only works if you have a backup of the iPad available, which I don't. Thanks
  15. Hi all, Pretty sure I know the answer to this one, even if it's not the one I want to hear! A Teacher left her iPad in an accessible place, the iPad was passcoded and was picked up by an eager student, basically its now in an iPad is Disabled state with no countdown for a re try after the student spend some time trying code after code, but I know what the code is!!! Is there anyway of unlocking the thing? It isn't managed with any MDM so it cant be unlocked via Profile Manager or anything, or is it a case of full restore? I have tried the Backup and Restore trick but have had no luck with that, not sure its even an option anymore on iOS 12? Thanks
  16. Not sure to be honest mate, App Control is a pain to trace, glad its a SonicWALL though Do you have DPI-SSL set up? Try this: Reserve IP of the board in DHCP Add the board to the SonicWALL in Address Objects - Call it CleverTouch 1 (or something easily identifiable) Create an Address Group called Interactive White Boards or something slimier Add the address object for the clever-touch to this group. Point this group to the Staff filtering profile and you may aswell use it to bypass SSO while your at it. Hope this helps See your e-mails aswell. Thanks
  17. Hi James, ACS James by any chance? First off, what Filtering box have you got in? Clever-touch devices are non AD, so will pick up a default policy unless set up manually in the Firewall, it could be that the default policy is blocking access to Class Dojo in app control. Thanks
  18. No its a stand alone setup, no link to SIMS at all! MicroLib (Or Capita now) are trying to convince the school to migrate to the cloud based version which will have a SIMS link I think, but the Head isn't keen at the moment. Thanks
  19. I want aware there was a recycle bin, I will check this evening, thanks
  20. Hi all, I have the old local version of Junior Librarian at one of my sites, unfortunately support from MicroLib is erm... expensive! so I try to do my best with it, however last week my databases started dropping data for no apparent reason, yesterday morning we registered 5 students, who each took out a book, these stayed in the database no matter how many times I restarted the PC or restarted the Librarian software, Bookes showed as current loans, students shown in their correct year group and thumb print was also there. Yet this morning they have all disappeared... again! Does anyone know why the databases would lose this information over night? This data isn't restored if I restore the database from backup (which writes every time the program is closed) either, its really got me puzzled! Thanks!
  21. I may have. I cant remote out of my current site, but I need to get the installer myself, your welcome to it when I get it! Hopefully tonight but the new Discovery episode is out tonight as well so that would take priority ha!
  22. Sorry for the late reply's, because of Virgin's exceptional service I have no internet at home! I have tried plugging it in to a Clevertouch, no video output at all, so other than the BIOS beeps I cant even tell if its getting past POST. We had this discussion a few years ago now, I'm sure they will have no relocation of the conversation and as such it will be on my head. The thing is the TPM hasn't failed, frustratingly its the GPU I have the recovery key as I saved it at the time of encryption, there's no reason at all I can think of for it not matching, unless foul play is considered, then I have no proof at all. That's how I set up my folder redirection as well, shes worried that if her laptop is domain joined using offline files, she wouldn't be able to work at home if something goes wrong with the setup, the Assistant Head also takes the same stance. Thanks all, Looks like I'm going to have to suck it up and tell her all her data is gone, hopefully she will let me domain join her new laptop with redirected folders and offline files.
  23. There must be another way round this otherwise it would render all drives that are TPM protected useless if the main board of the associated PC / Laptop dies.
  24. Hi all, I'm having a mare with BitLocker, I have a Head Teacher who refuses to have her laptop domain joined and as such works on a local profile, her drive is TPM encrypted with BitLocker and her GPU has failed, no problems I think, I have the recovery keys stored on the Admin drive, so I plonk the drive in a USB caddy recovery key in hand ready to unlock and de-crypt the drive, enter the key once... didn't work, fair enough i think, its a long key must be a typo, so I try again and the same occurs, incorrect key, so I check the encryption ID and it no longer matches the one created at the time of encryption!!! I know its not my fault as the head should be domain joined, and as she doesn't keep a backup only has herself to blame but I cant help feeling responsible! Is there any external usb>hdmi devices I can use to boot the laptop? Is there anything at all i can do? or am I clutching at straws? Thanks!
  25. Hi all, We are having a lot of difficulty getting profiles to push to out iPads though Profile Manager / APNS service, We are running through a Sophos UTM Proxy with the 17.0.0.0/8 range open, however apple advised that you need a proxy.pac file to give direct access to the APNS service as it generally doesn't work through a proxy, can anyone let me know what code is required for the proxy.pac file to direct traffic to / from 17.0.0.0/8 directly? At the moment Profile Manager picks up iPads but Enrollment is stuck in the Pending state. Thanks Rob
