  1. Thanks, The issue we have here with office is that it just isn't user friendly for most KS1 and some KS2 students, my IT coordinator really doesn't want to go down the office route. and after looking at the demo for Text ease Studio CT, I can compleatly see why! Thanks Rob
  2. Hi all, One of my schools has Text Ease 2000, it dosnt support x64 machines so they are looking in to updating to Studio CT, however it seems like its end of life and is no longer sold anywhere (even though its still highly relevant to KS1 & 2 curriculum?) does anyone know if its available under GNU ? or id it time to look for alternatives? Thanks Rob
  3. Thanks it's basically useless then because most of the apps I want need iOS10 at least I'll be able to attempt to repair it! Thanks.
  4. Hi all, Never had much to do with Apple before, I have been given an iPad Mini with a smashed screen to play with, it will be the first time I have ever attempted to fix a damaged iPad, unfortunately its iOS is limited to 9.3.5, just for curiosity is it possible to force iOS 10+ on to this iPad? either by jailbreak or other means? Thanks
  5. Hi All, One of the schools under my care has the following equipment for sale: 10 X Netgear WNDAP360 PoE Wi-Fi AccessPoints 1x NETGEAR ProSafe 20-AP Wireless Controller WC7520 I know roughly what its worth, but the school is open to offers, would anyone be interested in making an offer? Thanks
  6. Hi Duke, No I don't bother with KMS, not because i'm lazy, I just haven't got round to it yet but i I will make sure its static when I start setting KMS up in my schools! Thanks for the heads up!
  7. Thanks all Ironically we deployed the SIMS update last night and I am now running round like a headless chicken sorting SOLUS and DNS issues out! I will set scavenging up at all my sites this evening now!
  8. Hi all, I currently look after 9 schools, none of which have DNS Scavenging enabled, i'm just after a few pointers please 1. What time frame is best to use in a school environment? I don't want to end up killing all the active clients over the summer holidays! 2. Should an active address be deleted, what are the consequences to the client machine? 3. There are some really old records at some of my sites, If i manually delete a DNS entry in Forward Lookup Zones, will it automatically delete all other associated records for this entry? Many Thanks
  9. Having spoken to the 3rd party that controls the smooth wall they have opened up the required ports, I had some success without the proxy avoidance script so I am hopeful it isn't a DNS issue! I will update after my next site visit on the 11th. Thanks
  10. Hi All, I'm having a little trouble getting my iPads to enroll to Profile Manager and I think its due to the SmoothWall filtering system (which unfortunately I don't have direct access to), my set-up is as follows: MacBook Air - Wi-Fi connection, Reserved IP address, OS 10.13.3, MacOS Server up to date. I am using Configurator 2 to build the initial profile, blue print is prepared to see MacOS Server as the MDM, has Wi-Fi information including global-proxy and background images. Profile Manager is linked to the VPP account and controls Restrictions and Deployed Apps. Deploying as above the iPads pick up everything needed from my blue print but do not enroll and so the Profile Manager profile and Apps do not deploy. (the iPad just sits Pending on Enroll, the transfer of Profile, and the pushing of Apps) I have also tried with a proxy avoidance script in place, however the iPads generate an error stating the profile could not be installed or the MDM cant be contacted (I cant remember the exact error, I will update tomorrow providing I have access to EduGeek on site.) I cant browse to the URL for Profile Manager on an iPad but I can using the IP address of the Mac which points to DNS? but the Mac obviously doesn't have a DNS entry or a FQDN. I also can manually enroll each device by navigating to the Mac's IP address, I get the flowing error: Profile Installation Failed: The SCEP server configuration is not supported. I'm starting to run out of ideas, I know other people have had issues with MacOS Server and SmoothWall's so I would really appreciate it if someone could give me some help, I'm due to hand this site over to a new engineer and would rather not leave him with a half finished set up! Many Thanks
  11. Hi all, I have 1 PC in my entire school domain that is showing as Un-managed, Its driving me crazy! The PC its self has sophos installed and is updating from SEC without issue but SEC its self just refuses to pick it up, does anyone have any idea how I would go about troubleshooting this? I cant deploy Sophos through SEC to this PC but can install it through the network share, so it seems to be some form of communication issue! Thanks
  12. Yeh Planet Sherston is but I have the full offline package that I'm not deploying in schools that don't have the licence if they are now licence free I have a few foundation units who would make use of it. Besides, the online version is a proper pain, you have to set up all classes and students before they can play it, and it's progressive aswell so they have to complete certain tasks to unlock other games. Thanks Rob
  13. Hi all Just come across this thread, I'm quite interested to know, if Sherston went it to administration and no longer has anything to do with the old software, who owns the rights now? Or has it moved to open use? Thanks Rob
  14. There exactly what I'm looking for! Are these already in Active8? They may be a little complex for starting out, maybe limit the chain to 6 or 9 rather than the 12 you currently have? of course the chains can always get longer as the levels become harder, I will show these to some of the foundation staff and see what they think. Thanks Rob
  15. Hi, I haven't actually tried the software myself, I will put my 2 year old to it when I put my PC back together and give you some feed back Re pattern recognition , I have been asked for something that will present a pattern i.e. #*#*#*?*# and then ask the child what should appear in the pattern where the ? is, it needs to vary if difficulty so the harder it gets the more characters are missing in the chain and the more complex the chain becomes. Thanks
  16. Hi all, I'm after some suggestions for Nursery / Foundation stage educational games, must be free ware or open source and have the ability to be locally installed as there's no internet in some of my foundation units. I have so far: Tux Type https://tux4kids.alioth.debian.org/tuxmath/download.php Tux Paint Tux Paint Tux Math https://tux4kids.alioth.debian.org/tuxmath/download.php Childs Play Childsplay EduActive8 https://www.eduactiv8.org/en/home/ gCompris GCompris Educational Software I'm particularly interested in something to cover pattern recognition and shape recognition. Thanks
  17. Hi all, I have an issue with the Sophos update manager at one of my sites, it is currently stuck Updating Binary's, the issue is with Sophos at the moment but I wondered if anyone else has come across this issue before? So far i have tried: Clearing the contents of the %programdata%\sophos\update manager\update manager\warehouse and %programdata%\sophos\update manager\working folders Removing and re instating the Update Manager Resetting the Software Subscription Restarting the server All has come to nothing though and I know I could be waiting months for a response from Sophos. Thanks
  18. Hi purpleoakley, Have you get this sorted yet? What county are you in? I have a few schools on the YHGFL provided Sophos update source and have come across both "Failed to read customer file content" and "Licence Expired errors", both of which ended up being filtering issues. One school in particular on the RGFL grid (part of the YGHFL) was the only school on the grid that wasn't updating and it took quite a while to convince the provider that there was a filtering issue.
  19. Yeh it's a pain even with 20/20 vision! I had my eyes laserd last year so I know that's not the issue
  20. To be fair the modules supplied are pants, I have ordered some new ones that I am going to try, I just wondered if I was missing something obvious, good tip of putting a socket on each end of the cable! I will test the cable when I'm next onsite Thanks!
  21. It's 100% the correct cable, there's only two that have been laid and they left them with a million miles of extra length coiled up on the floor in the patch room :/ , I'm just using a normal cable tester which works as I have tested it with a working port I gather 568B on both ends of the cable is correct then? Thanks!
  22. Hi all, At one of my sites the LA have half installed a new network wall point for a computer, they have laid the cable but wont terminate it, its not technically in my remit but I have tried to terminate the cable (unsuccessfully) as a favour, The cable isn't going in to a patch point, one end is going directly in to a 10/100/1000 Switch (Terminated with an RJ45) and the other is connecting to the rear of the port in the wall, I have used T568B wiring on both ends of the cable but I am unable to get any of the pairs to test at all, I haven't done any cabling for a long time so I tool this as an opportunity to "refresh" my skills, I'm I doing something blatantly wrong? Thanks
  23. Hi all, I am trying to upgrade SQL to 2014 at some of my sites, generally its running smoothly but I have the following error at some of my sites: Has anyone come across this before? there's very little info given about the error by the installation program. Thanks Rob
  24. Hi enjay I have a copy I could upload somewhere if it would help? It would obviously require your schools licence information though. Thanks Rob
