nathan Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Does anyone know if there are any free alternatives to Logmein Rescue. There used to be a version of VNC (apparently there are loads of them now) that allows the similar remote support that didn't need firewall alterations or the user to install anything.
FN-GM Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Is this within the same network or over the internet?
nathan Posted January 23, 2019 Author Posted January 23, 2019 It would be over the internet, but could possibly change in the future.
LeMarchand Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 I asked about RemoteUtilities a while back (they have a "quick support" thing similar to TeamViewer) but the one reply wasn't complimentary: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/186542-remote-access-just-myself-2.html#post1609579
network41 Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 I thought it was free for non-commercial use !!
Bumhug360 Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Have used Chrome remote desktop successfully in the past, more recently with windows 10 Quick Assist which is built in
LeMarchand Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 I thought it was free for non-commercial use !! It is, but their definition of "commercial" is that if anyone is getting paid along the chain, it's commercial.
nathan Posted January 23, 2019 Author Posted January 23, 2019 Have used Chrome remote desktop successfully in the past, more recently with windows 10 Quick Assist which is built in have to admit, i've never looked into Windows 10 quick assist. All our devices are now on Windows 10 so will certainly investigate.
bald_pig Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 My new place has been using AeroAdmin, similar to Teamviewer but I'm not too sure if we'll stick with it for this particular use here.
theeggmaster Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 I thought it was free for non-commercial use !! It is free as long as no-one using it is being paid to use it, so if you're using it for your job, then it counts as commercial use to them.
1TF0rward Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 I am really liking the Quick Assist in Windows 10. It is very fast and most likely something we will use. We usually use msra.exe /offerra
msi_school Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 It also get suspicious if you install it on a server OS
markwilfan Posted May 4, 2019 Posted May 4, 2019 It is free as long as no-one using it is being paid to use it, so if you're using it for your job, then it counts as commercial use to them. They do a charity licence though. A whole 10% off wooowww. We went with senso cloud in the end. £5 per end point bosh 1
theeggmaster Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 They do a charity licence though. A whole 10% off wooowww. We went with senso cloud in the end. £5 per end point bosh I was lucky as I purchased TeamViewer 10 with 3 seats when they still did perpetual licences. Got 10% off for educational discount at the time, and it has paid for itself.

nathan Posted June 7, 2019 Author Posted June 7, 2019 I can also recommend Windows 10 Quick Assist. Really fast and relatively simple to use! We've started to use this, does what we need and works well.
