Inbir316 Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 only thing that annoys me is there was the same scenario on saturday against birmingham..defender jumped in front of keeper to stop him saving the larsson freak kick. the offside rule is inconsistent..actually scrap that refereeing is inconsistent....whatever happened to carding the imaginary card wavers...cough essien!!! and on the weekend the whole respect to referees..poor mascherano was made an exmaple of becasue of that toe rag ashley cole! all of a sudden that idea has been scraped! bloody united players screaming abuse to the ref! no wonder our football association is a joke!

There were literally hundreds of them last night, Essien mostly at fault and not one was given. I play regular football (Sunday league) and they are given all the time. Players are too big for this sport now, and that includes Sunday League teams! What chance do we have for years to come with role models like there is now? I agree whole heartedly with Birmingham. It was very clever what he did. But offside is offside and he was offside. How many times have I just said offside? OFFSIDE!

To come back into the game so strongly and then lose in extra time, while not getting a deserved penalty (Drogba's trip on Hyypia) is hard to take. I'm confining myself to the office today as we have a few gloating mancs around here and i have no interest in what they have to say today. no worse than garcia's goal i assure you!!.

Fair enough if you are on the other side of the pitch walking back after an injury or something, but imo if you are anywhere near the play then the defence and goal keeper cannot help but keep an eye on you, and if people are having to pay attention to you then you are interfering with play. Same sort of thing with hand balls, we need something clear cut. A few games ago Boro got penalised for handball in the box due to a defender throwing himself infront of the ball. There was no doubt in anyones mind that it was an accident as he wasnt even looking at the ball when it struck his arm, nor did he move his arm towards the ball. BUT there is no doubt it struck his arm, therefore he gained an advantage for Boro... I have absolutely no arguement with the desition so long as there is consistancy. IMO unless your arms are down by your sides or infront of your face then its your own fault and it should be a penalty. Accident or not if a team gains an advantage...

If, on 2nd sunday of the month, a striker with the letter 'r' in his name is less than 10 metres away from the goalkeeper and hasn't had his shirt tugged by a defender then his is offside. Unless ... the month has a Q in it, you are playing at a ground below sea level or te owner of the club is a dwarf who has had a sex change and is recoverign from bulimia. Jake Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 Actually the head to head statistics (league + cups) for the last 8 years between Man Utd and Liverpool are surprisingly even. 2000-present Matches played : 19 Manchester United win : 10 Draw : 1 Liverpool win : 8 Goals scored by Manchester United : 20 Goals scored by Liverpool : 16 Fairly even really, though of course we all know that technically individual results are fairly unimportant compared to performance over the course of a season

torledo Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 I personally can't wait till euro 2008, so we can get a break from this club vs club hot air.... what is it about club football ?, brings out the moron in the fans of the respective teams. Also the best teams in the world are the international teams.....France would knock the crap out of any club team....and Argentina would likewise run rings around Man U or Liverpool. Whereas in club football we have to put up with managers like Alex 'will not talk to the bbc' Ferguson, Arsene 'i did not see it' Wenger, and Rafa 'squad rotation' Benitez. And to cap it all we get anonymous brown-nosing managers like curbishley getting newspaper columns. And very good players like Christiano 'he's still a show pony' Ronaldo are turned into messianic figures all because the defending in the English premier league is pi$$ poor. Let's see how many goals he gets and how many of those stepovers work for him at euro 2008 where there are no easy games (apart from the hosts), and some great defensive units on show. Roll on euro 2008 for the enjoyment of the game. As for the offside rule....i personally would prefer to get rid of the interfering with play bit completely. The rule should be changed to the recepient of the pass being the only player who comes into the offside equation. That way, the chelsea goal stands becuase drogba neither receives the ball, nor is he the intended recpeient. If he receives the ball or debirately obstructs the keeper it's a freekick. Otherwise it stands as a goal. The biggest problem with the offside rule is equivalent to adjudicating a runout cricket. It's virtually impossible to judge tight decisions with the naked eye in real-time....when the linesman raises his flag for a tight decision he's in a 50-50 frame of mind each and every time. It would be ideal to leave it to technology to decide....unfortunatly replays would use up too much time, so my recommendation would be for the offside rule to only come into play in the first and last third of the pitch. That way you've got a line before which offside does not apply. There should be a dedicated offside linesperson patrolling the first and last third waiting to adjudicate those decisions. That way you don't get these situations were linesmen are struggling to keep up with play.
