Has anyone experienced phantom touch on an interactive touch-screen?

When using the screen the mouse pointer either moves by itself or folders open or mouse pointer moves to bottom of screen as if a phantom touch is being made on the screen.

We have two 65" Sahara touch screens which display this problem at random times, very frustrating and so far not been able to fix it.

We've got some Genee touch screens in one of our primaries and it's usually either something has been stuck on the edge of the screen and is interfering with the infrared touch screen, it can also be affected by light. On one screen we ended up disabling multi-point touch as a work around.

Thanks for the reply. I've had similar problems with clutter around the screen (including Christmas decorations!) This problem appears to be related to the actual touch function - possibly the LEDs around the screen edge. We have to disconnect the touch facility (take out the USB connection) to be able to use the screens.

We have Viewsonic boards here and the rep. that came to give some training said that very often dust on the bottom infra-red ledge can cause strange problems.

Although if you've checked for stuff around the edges you may have already looked at that.

Been down that track already. Tried new 3m high quality USB direct to PC from screen, this works OK for a short time (about two / three hours) but phantom touch then returns. Also looked for possible sources of 'interference' and re-routed USB in case of cross signal but all to no avail. Also cleaned board, updated software, restore defaults and anything else I can think off. Temporary the problem goes away but returns in a day or so at random. I suspect it could be a fault in the screen but am interested to learn if anyone else has similar problem with these screens. - 65" 'Clevertouch' Sahara Product code - 1545005AG - I think!

Any suggestions welcome.

Yes - I've tried that - connecting a different PC (laptop direct USB) it solves the problem temporarily, just like when I re-set / re-connect main PC but the phantom touch returns!

Thanks for your suggestion and others - I'll keep trying anything that might work to attempt to get these two screens back in working order - like they were when we first bought them.

It's a bit like having a new car then after a couple of years the reverse not working for no apparent reason.

Updated or downgraded the drivers? We had an similar issue with a SMART touch panel and eventually found it was because the drivers are distributed with newer versions of Notebook, which we didn't have at the time. Once we installed the new drivers everything was five by five.

Otherwise the only thing is what others have said, clean the board and get canned air around all the edges.

Had this before on a smart board - and it was a sensor being blocked by a blob of kid snot in the tray. Is there anywhere where the tracking just seems a bit out/a bit where touch isn't recognised at all?

Similarly, have seen it on smaller touch screens where it's caused by outdated firmware with a new driver, or new firmware and an outdated driver. Might be worth getting the latest version from the manufacter?

I have had this and needed to go in to the hidden settings on the screen and do a factory sensor calibration. We do not have Sahara screens so can't help with finding the hidden menu but I believe they all have this.

BTW I found the screens worked so much better after doing this that I went round and did it on all our TVs

We also have had this phantom touch issue with three screens bought at the same time (also thinking faulty batch), which only came with three year warranty which can not be extended.

When I spoke to support they told me this was a well known common issue and also suggested fixed failed which makes me think its a faulty component in a faulty batch.

The price for repair was more than the cost of replacement screens (with no guarantee they will fail again in the future, costing more), so we have decided to replace the screens with Smart and will not be buying or recommending Sahara Clevertouch again.

They may be cheaper, but do not work out cheap if they fail just after three years and need replacing.

We had this on some Dell laptops - whether connected to IWB or not

Turned out to be something to do with the 'nipple mouse' thingy in the middle of the keyboard - you know - the one no-one ever uses

I disabled this and the problem stopped

I have also seen this caused by infra red (I think) interference happening when the sun was shining in that part of the room - it was interfering with the wireless mouse hence causing phantom movement

Thanks for the info. I'm still on the case with this one and hoping for some action from Sahara. Can you tell me when you bought the three screens and what type / size they are? (Serial numbers?). I am of the opinion the 'phantom touch' problem is due to fault with screens. The similarity of the problems with our two screens, bought at the same time, with the almost exactly the same symptoms is beyond coincidence!

Most certainly a fault with the screens. I very much doubt you will get anywhere with this one with Sahara if the warranty on your boards has expired, bar taking legal action against them claiming the items were not fit for purpose: https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/advice/what-do-i-do-if-i-have-a-faulty-product - Is that what you had in mind?

You are probably better of just replacing them with a different brand, and not recommending or using them again. Sahara has also started charging customers for Windows 10 touch screen drivers for out of warranty boards. You get what you pay for, and worth spending a bit more on something more reliable.

Clevertouch were the expensive option when I bought them. I thought that they would be reliable and last, but it wasn't the case. Philips for me now in future.

My dodgy model number for info is 9GT65S06LSAEO
