Evening All,

 

We are currently evaluating PDQDeploy as a means of deploying some packages. It's expensive per Admin user point @ $450 and I'm not sure of any UK suppliers who can invoice it.

 

Anyway - do people use it? I know they do - but could you tell me how you find it?

 

I'm currently on the Enterprise trial for 14 days and have already had an issue with Adobe Reader DC 19 installing - it hangs for ages. Not sure what it could be.

 

My aim would be to tie it into MDT - I've found a page for this - but has anyone done it?

 

What about software that doesn't have pre-made packages - such as Sibelius or the Serif software? Have you created your own? Are people allowed to share packages they have created?

 

Any discussion welcome.

We use it mainly just for our plugin deployment and updates.

 

All of our other software is pushed out via SCCM.

 

We do think it's value for money here, I know others also rave about the PDQ Inventory product, but we've trialled it and didn't think it was required for us.

 

We tend to just buy on the school credit card, but there's a UK reseller I believe ours have used in the past

I use the free version and have done for a few years. This means I don’t have access to the package library so have to work out silent installs for each package I deploy. If you’re already using MDT you’ll already be familiar with working out silent installation commands.

 

Adobe stuff I have found easier to uninstall first and then install a later version. Silent uninstalls are possible too.

How does PDQ Deploy deal with software that requires a licence key to be installed post deployment?

If it can be scripted it can be done.

 

The paid version can have multiple steps for a single job but if each step can run from a batch file the free version works just as well.

I purchased our renewal license via CDW because our bank didn't like us making international payments.

 

As for what it can do, I've been able to throw everything I needed to at it with little issue. If you can script it, or give it command line parameters, then PDQ can handle it.

 

I would go as far as to say that for $450/year, which in the grand scheme of IT costs, is quite the peanuts, it is more than worth it and very useful for package deployment. Simpler and just as powerful as SCCM as far as I'm concerned (with regards to package deployment, not SCCM as a whole).

We pay for the enterprise and have the free inventory package.

 

Its pretty easy making new packages, we deploy office with it (even 2019). I just it to push reg keys in emergencies and packages.

 

Mainly I use the auto deploy feature to keep files stream, chrome, flash etc up to date as they deploy after they are releases.

I've been using PDQ for quite a while now. I have to throw my weight behind it being well worth the money - especially being able to auto-deploy new runtimes and updates to software like Chrome. There's also a ton of support on their website and youtube guides for creating collections in PDQ Inventory.

 

My go to response to pretty much any issue now is "I wonder if I can do that through PDQ...." - I've not found many things it can't do.

Great piece of software.

 

I'd struggle to get things done without it. Since I deploy pretty much everything out through it, including Windows updates.

 

I pay for a single admin licence and have it installed on one of our servers, that way any admin could access it if we ever happen to have anyone more than just myself.

Paying member of PDQDeploy and Inventory. Amazing bit of software. Excellent support. It can do 99% of everything I need to do with ease.

 

Also Adobe Reader is one of the very few I have had problems with, hanging with an MSI 1603 error. Usually I uninstall the previous version first (can use their uninstall packages too) then install the new one.

Deploy & Inventory here - wouldn't be without it now.

Allows us to keep those annoying runtimes up-to-date without having to think twice.

 

We have used it for the following:

Bios updates and configs (dell), software deployment, installing fonts, ad-hoc plugins, driver changes etc.

Deploy and Inventory here installed on a server so more than one admin can use it.....wouldn't be without it...

 

So simple to use and if you can script it your can deploy anything...as we have found....Auto deployment for all the runtime engines and Chrome...just does what it say's on the tin...

 

Absolute steal at the cost and so many videos on YouTube to help you it must be one of the most prolific tools in a network managers armoury....

+1 for Enterprise Deploy and Inventory. We have it installed to one server.

 

I used to deploy software via a mixture of MDT Applications, GPOs and (for some of the trickier bits and bobs) manually.

 

PDQ has transformed how I deploy software. PDQ installs everything for me now. It took me a little while to setup how I wanted it (mostly due to the amount of software we have in school) but now it just runs itself. It's practically set and forget. All of my plugins are patched by this. Plugin patching used to be a nightmare before this and our devices were out of date as soon as I had got around to updating them.

 

We use PDQ to easily deploy scripts, reg keys etc to our devices.

 

It's the best $999 you'll ever spend.
