[bromcom] Send Security Alerts on Bromcom

Send Security Alerts on Bromcom.

 

Has anyone managed to do this yet? I can send an alert, but I cannot see where I can configure the MIS to say who should receive them! Any other solutions to the problem of quickly passing word around that school is in "Lockdown"?

Hi Nigel

The Alert App notifications will go to any person who has the application installed on their machine. You cannot set a target audience, the audience is whoever has it installed. You could also use the communication module to send an SMS or email message to staff. Hope this helps, if you need further information please get in touch with your MIS support team.

Do you mean anyone with Bromcom installed on their machine? I've just tried sending an alert and although it confirmed it was sent successfully, nothing has come through?

There is an alert App that can be installed on users machines. When you send an alert from the MIS it will go to users machine that have it installed. You can find the App by clicking on your name in the right hand corner of the MIS. Click on Versions and at the bottom of the page you will see the installer. If you need any further assistance let me know.

This does not seem to work on our iPads nor MacBooks...don't tell me we are to be shackled to PCs!...as we went cloud based to get away from that problem!!

There's nothing on the road map, but is the due an update. Either the app installer itself or being fully integrated into the MIS browser.

I'm going to step this one up again. The fact that the alert needs to be installed and is trapped on Windows 10 rather than to the Teacher App and/or a browser extension really is a pain.

 

Would love to see a Chrome/Edge Extension for the alerts at least.

Chrome browser already support this.... infact bromcom use it to display "new features". Its the same with Pathways and etimetabler needs integrating..... its quite frustrating

Sorry for bringing this oldish post.

 

We're currently testing Bromcom, I wonder if the live system will have an updated version of alerts?

 

Currently on SIMs:

Staff logon do a register and leave it open, this allows them to simply click a button and alert a group of staff that patrol is needed and where (behaviour). There isn't any typing required, the group is predefined and updated whenever necessarily (due to illnesses etc). One of the most simplest/easiest things for a teacher.

 

I'll send this question to Bromcom when we have our list/testing finished.

 

1) Is the software easily to install sitewide and auto logon for the staff member?

2) Is there any manually configuration needed?

3) Can we setup what notifications are required in the installation? - this allows us to turn off basic notifications for teacher machines (unless we use the emergency ones)

The bromcom alert software is pointless....... its installation, management and configuration is extremely dated and painful.

 

Personally i believe it needs to be abandoned and maybe bromcom could call browser notifications. That would probably be better.

I am pleased to inform that, we are in the process of replacing the Bromcom Alerts client application with web push notifications very soon. We did recently move Behaviour Pathways client to web and now we are working on Alerts clients.

Moving e-Timetable client to web is in our backlog, but I cannot say "very soon" yet.

 

Roadmap page is currently under review, it will be made available as part of what's new page very soon.

This is great news, the 2 biggest weaknesses of Bromcom are its alerts system and timetabling. EDIT: oh and the room booking system HINT HINT

From teachers perspective nothing will change in Bromcom. Currently, they can send alert via TeacherApp or within MIS from any page by clicking their profile picture and select "Send Alert".

We are replacing the alert client requirement on PC. Rather than install the client on PC - when user login to MIS for the first time on the browser that "Web Notification" is not registered, MIS will prompt the user a message to register, and they have to click "Allow" button on browser, like any other web application asks to register the browser. These users will be prompted to register for push notification if they are approved within MIS permissions area.

On this - in testing (we don't go live for another month or so) - it appears that if someone asks for a response they have to leave the "you've sent an alert" notification box open - and the response appears in there. Is there a reason the response doesn't show in notifications if the "you've sent an alert" box is closed (beyond a decision made by someone) - as it would be very useful for teaching staff not to have to leave that on screen!

I got my tech to ask about the alerts at the BET stand today.

 

The reply was that the alerts are coming soon and kinda hinted at it being ready.

Hi All, and sorry. I was on annual leave We are aiming to have the new alert system in place for the mid-May update. Not next update, but the one after. Surely, that depends to all expected developments and testing to be completed. With new alert system, it's not going to be web alert/notification, but also teachers who uses Teacher App (or logged onto teacher app) will be informed via push notifications, and (IF we can fit in), also send email alert. So trying to cover all aspects - if whatever reason web notifications turned off (as user can do via windows settings) - push notification and email can still a way to alert people. Emails may not sound quick enough, BUT it could be handy if BROWSER AND MOBILE PUSH NOFICATIONS turned off by the user - intentionally or unintentionally.

Hi, Absolutely yes! New Alert System will Alert Group Members, and memberships will be managed from a page under Setup, and it each member will be able to configured by alert type (as of today we have 6 types). By default, everyone will be notified via web notification (via windows/browser once they activated on the machines they have logged in to MIS once) and Push Notifications (via Teacher App - if they have installed on their mobile) - we like to also introduce "Email Alerts" into the same release, where system will send email notification as well to their work email address. Happy to discuss further in detail and involve you guys in earlier stages before release. Feel free to email me directly and show your interest.

Yes - development and testing happening- as we are aimed, we are trying to be in position to release this sprint (release date: 3rd June). If we cannot completed everything and not ready to be released - then it will be definitely released in next sprint (release date: 24th June).
