Teacher screen onto IPad

I have been told that we will potentially getting a student next year that has some issues with his vision.

 

We have been told that he uses an IPad which helps alot with this. Apparently at his current school the teacher uses a piece of software which allows them to show their desktop onto his IPad, he finds it easier to see rather than looking at the IWB

 

He is in primary school at the moment so it will most likely be just one computer he is connecting to. When he comes to secondary school he could go to any classroom so I would need to install the software on all teacher computers

 

1) what software could I use to do this?

2) What is the best way of making this as easy as possible for staff to use?

Impero is a teacher lead solution for this.

I have done this in a primary setting with VNC before, with the software set to allow view only on the teacher pc.

 

Slightly trickier in a secondary environment, as you wouldn't want the pupil to be able to access any screen at any time, in case there is confidential work etc happening.

 

VNC may still work, but not installed as a service, so the teacher could manually start it when the child is in the lesson, although I've never tried it like this.

I had the exact same request several years ago. NetSupport Tutor worked great for the child. The teacher just needed to open the program in the morning and make sure that they knew the class/tutor name to type in the iPad to connect and view the board on the child's tablet. The child could happily and easily zoom in on the iPad.

VNC Viewer is what we are using.

Install the software on the host machine and then the app on to the iPad.

It seems to be working for us.

Then just remember to turn off the interaction part so the student cant control the screen.

No, I haven't spoken to the school. This is only a potential student that may join us. I don't really want to talk to the school about it just in case they tell his parents we have been asking questions. Having spoken to the SENCO it sounds like we may struggle to provide all the support he needs and he may be better off joining a school that could give him more support. I have just been asked to look into a potential solution incase he does come here

Using Skype For Business here for sharing teachers display with students devices. For us its to laptops but same would work for iPad. It also means the teacher can pick the application they want to present rather than the full screen.

I'd say there is no harm in asking even if its through the SENCO who has probably been talking to the school anyway.

Does your LEA have a Visual Impairment support unit? Our VI Service supplies an ipad for the pupil with special "Dolphin" screen reader and maginfication software. This also integrates with VLC viewer, so I have set up a VLC server session on the teacher pc (with their permission) so that the VI student can connect to their PC when the teacher is ready, and see what they are doing and have it read out by the Dolphin software.

 

They supplied all the kit I just had to get it working.

My main worry with using VNC is staff not turning it off when they aren't using it. He could then potentially connect to their computer when not in their room

Give the password to the teacher so only the teacher can connect up the iPad and the stiudent then won't be able to connect.

I got a quote for Netsupport school a while ago which I have found out also does this

 

I have to write a report about what we can currently provide for him and any costings for additional software. So I will base the costing on the netsupport quote but may revisit this if he does join us and try a few different solutions mentioned to work out what's best for him and the staff

I've been recently asked to look into an iPad App called MirrorOp for this purpose... but I'm so snowed with jobs at the mo I haven't had time to look further into it.

We have a student in the same situation. We use Impero, so her iPad has the Impero client installed. Teachers then use the Impero console to broadcast to a group, which has a single member - the iPad.

 

It works well, but clearly you wouldn't buy Impero just for this.
