m1ddy Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 (edited) Morning all, I am after a bit of information from you all. I just want to know how many things you support and how many staff you have to do it? Currently we have..... 600 computers 12 servers 70 projectors 35 IWB 30 printers 1350 users Network VLE to maintain. We currently have 2 technical staff to look after all of the above. Both of which are term time ONLY. What sort of situations are you all in with regards to staffing? Thanks Jon Edited April 29, 2008 by m1ddy

gshaw Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 (edited) About 400-450 computers across 2 separate networks plus a few outcentres, 50-60 laptops, 16 projectors, 20 odd servers, 40 odd printers currently with 2 fulltime staff and 1 more coming soon to do the day-to-day support Edited April 28, 2008 by gshaw 1

gmiller Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 150 computers, 9 servers, 20 printers, 36 iwb and projectors, 575 users, all support, build and development work done by me only.. i think its just a manageable level for me at the moment bearing in mind all the much needed development work ongoing since i joined last year. 40 pcs and a few more servers over the summer will add to this. 1
tmcd35 Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 26 Servers for 300 computers? Hell even 10 Servers for 300 computers - thats some funky Server:Client ratio you got going on there! Either you are running Terminal Servers, or your servers are virtualised and you have a separate server for each small task. Anyhow - about 5/600 computers and around 2/300 laptops. Soon to be 6 physical servers (2 VMWare, 1 San, 1 Free VMWare, 2 Terminal Servers) and around 15 virtual servers. More projectors, wifi ap's, IWB and printers than I can possibly count, We are for a 1 in each class room on all but printers. 1 Network Manager, 1 Senior Tech, 2 Junior Techs. 1

Geoff Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 ugh, that's a lot of laptops alan. I bet that gets annoying. Currently on a crusade to get rid of ours. 2
tmcd35 Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 2 work experience minions. Sounds useful! I'm gonna have to get me one of them!
m1ddy Posted April 28, 2008 Author Posted April 28, 2008 Im starting to see a trend here. We are drastically understaffed arn't we! I forgot to add 50+ IWB and 1 more server coming shortly.
alan-d Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 ugh, that's a lot of laptops alan. I bet that gets annoying. Currently on a crusade to get rid of ours. It gets worse - adding another 32 this summer and replacing 32 others which means the old ones will probably be cleaned up and put back into circulation for basic web browsing and office functions The SMT are currently happy to pay for the additional costs of maintenance which sort of buggers up our objections Next Year we upgrade the wireless kit
pallen Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 175 computers,4 servers, 30 laptops, 17 projectors 700 users. Me(IT Tech) full time. 1
witch Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 I think you are a bit understaffed - at least one of the staff should be full time and not term time only - and maybe you need a term time lowly tech like me. I look after 100 machines, 32 wireless laptops, 15 teachers laptops, 15 IWB etc etc Sounds easy except that I do it in 10 hours a week term time only! If you do a search you will see that this question has been asked many times - lots of info for you
