CAM Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 This is unacceptable. How can SIMS be considered by schools as fit for purpose when this has happened AGAIN?
Jawloms Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Deja vu From Capita website: IMPORTANT: 2019 Spring Release awareness regarding CTF imports 28/06/2019 We have identified a specific scenario which has affected CTF imports for a handful of schools who have taken the SIMS Spring 2019 release. The specific scenario arises when a contact exists in SIMS and an imported CTF contains this existing SIMS contact (e.g. sibling) and a new contact with the same surname, forename and gender. Following the CTF import the new contacts telephone number and email address are appended to the existing contact held in SIMS. The pupil associated with the new contact (in the CTF file) is also incorrectly linked to the existing contact held in SIMS. A database patch which addresses this scenario has been developed and is currently being tested. Testing will continue over the weekend and we will provide a further update on Monday 1 July. Our advice is not to use the CTF mechanism to import pupil and contact details from other schools until this database patch is available and applied to SIMS. Capita ESS apologises for any impact to our customers that may be affected. We will keep you informed as information becomes available. Where is it? I can't see it. I'm not doubting you at all, I just wanted to show it to my Business Manager.
enjay Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Confused. That's the same problem which they told us about when Spring was first released, but with a new date and a new patch? Does this mean their patch didn't work?!
Arthur Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 I'm not seeing anything newer than 08 April 2019. https://myaccount.capita-cs.co.uk/Notifications/sims-newsfeed-ctf-spring-2019
BrownShoes Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 I can see this in MyAccount: Notifications Your Notifications shows the latest news to keep you up to date and informed. IMPORTANT: 2019 Spring Release awareness regarding CTF imports 28/06/2019 View details...
KeyData Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 I can't see this 2019 Spring Release awareness regarding CTF imports 28/06/2019 in MyAccount Notificiations but my Local Authority SIMS Support team can. I think this does not show for schools that get their SIMS support through the local authority instead of going directly to Capita for support. 1
blueday Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 (edited) https://myaccount.capita-cs.co.uk/Notifications/Important_2019_Spring_Release_awareness_regarding_CTF_Imports/ It looks like there might have been a scenario from the previous issue last year that wasn't fixed... Jawloms Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 I can't see that article. It says it may have expired or been removed. I am NOT LA, I go straight to Capita.
robyholmes Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Yer I can't see it either. I wonder if someone was looking back at fond memories and clicked on 'Re-publish'.
pubgrub277 Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 This is a new issue, We had an email direct from capita staff about it. Nice to see they are consistently inconsistent when notifying people about issues. Given the incidents that have already occurred with ctfs, you would have thought they'd be checking extra hard (or at least checking at all) before each new release!

GeneralDreedle Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Just got this notification. Are they kidding? From the new "Customer Success Team"(!) The same bug that they introduced over a year ago is still being shipped? Or reheated in some way? Is this some sort of celebration of the introduction of GDPR by "spaffing all their customers up the wall"? We hold off every release till the last possible moment, but now they've got us. And this at the time of year when we are importing hundreds of new pupils. Absolutely incredible. They should be facing a class action now. And their decrepit cash cow "product" should be booted out of every school. Unbelievable. 1
enjay Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 You see, this is why we don't import contact information from the CTFs, we enter it manually from the application list which County send us. Even without this issue, importing contacts from CTF can cause them to get duplicated which then causes problems with new mobile numbers not being added to parental contact records, and issues registering for Parent App.
localzuk Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Emailed our SIMS support team to check this, as it isn't showing my account on the SIMS support site.
CAM Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 I guess we won't be seeing them at BETT again this year....
pete Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 (edited) We received an email around lunchtime to the generic enquiries@ mailbox for the school. The link to My Account in the email is broken. localzuk Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Confirmed by our SIMS team. Though they haven't been told since when this problem could have existed, and therefore how long we could have been messing up our data... I think this is the final nail in the coffin for SIMS with me. I'll be pushing hard to change supplier from now on. 1
DrCheese Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 What the actual frak? The same bug for a 3rd time - Are they hiring programmers straight out of Nursery? There's only one response for this...
David44 Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Programmers make mistakes. It happens. It's the testers or the test process I would be questioning. If they didn't have a test for this problem as part of their automated test suite last year, then they certainly should now. Seems they haven't learnt much from the last time when it comes to their communication process either. Once again we are hearing about this on Edugeek before Capita publish anything on their site.
DrCheese Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Aye, it was annoying last year but humans are humans and make mistakes. But then we had it again just before the Spring release & once again now. It's painful & clearly a big reason why they hid from going to BETT this year (Regardless of their attempts to spin it)

Seems they haven't learnt much from the last time when it comes to their communication process either. Once again we are hearing about this on Edugeek before Capita publish anything on their site. Well, when the Interface Jump was fixed I was told at BETT that it was going to be added to the list for regression testing so it wouldn't return. It came back within one release. It seems the same has happened here except with a bug that is far more serious.
synaesthesia Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 You see, this is why we don't import contact information from the CTFs, we enter it manually from the application list which County send us. Even without this issue, importing contacts from CTF can cause them to get duplicated which then causes problems with new mobile numbers not being added to parental contact records, and issues registering for Parent App. Is it bad that I'd trust CTF's sent over by incompetent people, imported into an incompetent system more than anything sent by our LEA?
