iSteve Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 Hello, I have been presented with 20 Kindle Fire 7 tablets to set up. They all demand they are registered with and email address and amazon password before you get to the home screen. Is there any way to skip this step? I was given 10 to set up a couple of months ago and they did not have this registration screen. Any words of wisdom?
Jayellcee Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 Don't know if you can skip it or not but... We discovered when we went to claim on the warranty for one, that if they were bought from amazon, the account that bought them, has to register them so that they can be returned.
gmonks Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 I know I struggled to do it via a proxy so had to complete registration offsite without a proxy.
iSteve Posted June 26, 2018 Author Posted June 26, 2018 Not needing to know about proxy stuff - just wanted to know if there was a way to skip registration as per the first batch I did.
mikemcsharry Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 I've just been given 10 - looks like they can get out through the proxy. I guess I'll have to make an amazon account.. All we want them to do is browse the interweb from home, so users can get to teams and 365 online plus some other websites
nadeem Posted January 14, 2021 Posted January 14, 2021 Try the Amazon Fire toolbox - its a great little tool https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/windows-tool-fire-toolbox-v10-2.3889604/ 1
mikemcsharry Posted January 15, 2021 Posted January 15, 2021 Thank you for the toolbox link. I've been working through How to Add Google Chrome to an Amazon Fire Tablet (techjunkie.com) so far I'll definitely have a work through the toolbox. Got Chrome and Teams working so far. Looks like 365 on line, via office.com doesn't work very well on chrome on fire - seems to block a few parts of the page. I think I hate Kindle Fires (oops, did I type out loud)
mikemcsharry Posted January 15, 2021 Posted January 15, 2021 The major use for the kindle will be 365 (mainly teams) and some online apps. The Microsoft launcher looks really nice for this. Its in an infant school, so 'less is better' will be the rule here. Probably edge, chrome (for their subscribed websites), teams and possibly one note and one drive.
mikemcsharry Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 This is getting very very close. I've used the toolbox, used the Microsoft Ui, which is pretty nice and now have a dummy user working on Teams. Overall, for fifty quid, these could be a gamechanger. I have no recent experience with Kindle Fires. 2 hurdles so far - I've only tried chat so far The Kindle can make a video chat but can't receive one, it just gets an alert saying it missed it The video feed from the kindle looks like it is magnifying / zooming in quite a bit. I wonder if I've got a screen resolutio issue. (I shared 2 images from a PC on desktop teams app and these came across okay).
mikemcsharry Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 The toolbox has made the fire into a very useable device.. Does anyone know if there's a way to clone one device to another? I tried 'backup' one device, then set up second device to point of allow USB connections etc, tried to restore the backup I'd made but nothing happened.. Looks like a labour of love coming my way..
Localtechie Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 I used the toolbox on a personal tab and the Amazon launcher would appear a few times a months by itself just something to be aware of. 1
Jobos Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Just started setting up our 10 and it's asking for an Amazon login to register the tablet. Would it cause problems if I used 1 login for all tablets or do I need to make 10 Amazon accounts?
Jobos Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 I'm having problems getting Teams installed on the Fire 7 tab. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
mikemcsharry Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 Hi Jobos, Have a look at the threads above, the instructions with the toolbox show you how to allow downloads from google play store, you can get teams from there. The remove bloat from the toolbox is especially helpful Do you have teams installed and not working or not installed? 1
mikemcsharry Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 I've gone for one account per tablet, just in case someone adds a payment method to one device. You may need to register at Amazon from different places as it seems to track your IP as well I've made kindlex@.... emal addresses just for this 1
Jobos Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 I've got the Fire 7 working now but the Fire HD is not playing ball. When I try to install the .apk file it errors out saying the file cannot be parsed. I'm following this guide https://www.howtogeek.com/232726/how-to-install-the-google-play-store-on-your-amazon-fire-tablet/
mikemcsharry Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 I think that you might need to update the Fire operating system to 7.2 or above, my guess is you are on 6.3 As a matter of interest, whereabouts are you and how did you come to have the Kindles?
Jobos Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 I think that you might need to update the Fire operating system to 7.2 or above, my guess is you are on 6.3 As a matter of interest, whereabouts are you and how did you come to have the Kindles? This is strange. I just updated the OS and it's now running Fire OS 4.5.5.3 so a long way off 7.2. I was given the tabs from the HT and was told an estate agent donated them. They are all new and in unopened boxes.
Jobos Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 @mikemcsharry Amazon is really getting under my skin ATM as I'm making new accounts, one for each tab and Amazon is wanting to add a mobile number for each one and it will not let me use the same mobile number saying the number exists with another account!
mikemcsharry Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 Jobos, I think there is another thread going where you've mentioned FireOS level, if it helps, please can you cancel that thread and put the info in here. Here's the one piece of info you really, really need to know The Amazon Kindle Fire is a shopping cart for Amazon You do need Amazon accounts, I've made extra accounts in 365 just to talk to Amazon. In addition, you can't get any apps from Amazon unless you link a payment method, so you'll need Google Play accounts for ach one - that needs a mobile to link to it to get a confirmation text You really can't get anywhere with these things unles the OS is above 7.2
JATSO Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 Just walked into the school and have been presented with 100 of these with no plan on how they will fit into our setup of Windows and Chromebooks Seem to be jumping from the pan into the fire quite literally. So pleased I came across this thread any setup advice would be appreciated.
the_one_that_cant Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 Yeah, I just got given 50 Kindle Fire 7 devices. My plans are: Create 1 single O365 email account - and then create 50 proxy addresses for it. Will I have to register an amazon account for each device? We will need to put the schools proxy addy in - can they use pac files? Wondering if i would be better off giving them their own subnet? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Not used these before. Cheers Anyone have a contact at Amazon that can help :-D likely no, but cannot hurt to ask.
JATSO Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 I have managed to get Toolbox installed and removed most of the Amazon stuff. I am still stuck with one page that links to amazon online etc but, I have installed Google Play, Classroom, Chrome, I am not sure how they will work on the filtering side, having problems getting them to sign into Google while onsite at present but I thinks that's an authentication problem with Android devices in general as even my phone will not authenticate a new Google account on an Android device onsite so I have have asked our smoothwall support address it. I have other issues with smoothwall but that's for another thread.
