Which version of Windows 10?

1607 LTSB.

I run the LTSB here (Secondary/600 clients) & just deploying it at the primary I support.

 

Yes, I miss a few features like OneDrive on demand, but I'm not forced to upgrade on Microsoft's schedule. I can simply wait for the next LTSB (September 2018) and upgrade when I feel like it.

Was using Education 1709, but moved to LTSB 1607. Much less hassle.

Edu here. We started on LTSB, but found edu played nicer with our environment. Just checking out 1803 build before we send it out.

Education. MS keep prodding us away from using LTSC.

 

The fact that each release will only support silicon available at the time negates one of the strongest reasons to use it, so buying machines in the future will mean having to upgrade your version of LTSC anyway. If no new version has been released then you will have to deploy a different channel anyway.

 

Office ProPlus will not be supported on LTSC from 2020.

 

I can see more restrictions being put on LTSC as MS are pushing it to only be installed in a minority of cases.

I'm rolling it out this summer so have had the luxury of sitting back and letting everyone toil with it first but I've decided that Windows 10 Edu 1709 is rock solid stable with my image and that's what I'll be going with. Not had much luck with 1803 yet, too many bugs and BSOD to consider it releasable to the great unwashed...

SAC 1709. LTSC in a few places but starting to be pain especially server 2016 stuck on 1607. The main issue with upgrades is 3rd party software lagging behind.

A mix of 1709 Enterprise and 1507/1607 LTSB. The main issue being that the old Optiplexs we have lock up due to the sound card drivers that Win10 installs after 1507.

You need SCCM.

Test. Go slow get policies correct. Update admx, Make sure you have an image and task sequence for reimaging. Run compatibility scans using a Task Sequence. The first upgrade cycle is the hardest. You'll find software you need to deactivate/uninstall for sucessfull upgrades. Find a method for waking PCs out of hours and keep an eye on how many 1703,1709,1803 you have. Accept you'll never get to 100% 1709 etc.

Haven't quite got that far yet. My plan is to attempt to upgrade to 1803 during the summer holidays using WSUS. I'll shortly be testing an in-place upgrade on a handful of test machines to see how well this actually goes. Failing that I'll use my fallback method of creating a new deployment image.

Will be over a holiday for sure, but unless there's something major we want we won't be doing it for awhile, else you're causing yourself more hassle for no reason
