FN-GM Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 Hello, I am not sure where to put this really. It doesn't fit in the technical forum nor any of the purchasing categories. Anyway... I have been quoted £2,225 (ex VAT) for an additional Inventry screen and badge printer for a school. Does anyone else think this is unreasonable? After all it is only a all In One screen, label printer and a barcode reader. We already have the software licences. Thanks 1
Edu-IT Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 (edited) I'm not surprised. I think as the 'leader' they make up their own prices knowing full well you'll probably pay it because you've already invested in it. It's a lot of money. Edited May 8, 2018 by Edu-IT
Wubbalubbadub Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 I think that’s disgusting! Personally I would strip out the system and buy a cheap sign in book!
elsiegee40 Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 Cashing in on the lie that says GDPR requires electronic signin books 1
MarcLister Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 Wow! That is a big price. We have Inventry and love it but for what you're asking for, £2,225 is a lot. Our badge printer is a Brother QL-570 I think. You can get this for £66 inc VAT from Amazon yet I think Inventry (or their partners) quoted us £375 so it might be worth buying the same label printer, if you already have one, and taking that off the quote and see if the price drops a fair bit. The label plugs in via USB so there's no reason I can think of not to get one yourself and save a few £££. 2
Liam Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 Are they not charging for a software upgrade? Maybe their MAT version? Or is that free? I’m not sure. I know there are also compatibility issues with hardware too if considering a shared system- just something to be mindful of

caffrey Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 I think I built my own system with 3 screens 3 PCs, 2 printers and sundries (Labels, lanyards, monitor mounts etc.) for half of that... It's been running solid since last September.

We do have multiple schools as well so the savings would be great.
RLR Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 Yep, we just paid £3096 for a new unit to be put in one of our schools.
JordanT91 Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 We've been quoted just over £5000 for the main unit, an additional card reader for a staff entrance, 1 year support and SIMS integration.

See as harsh as it sounds, I feel like I don't get paid enough to do things like this, or get the appreciation it deserves, just IT in general that though.
timbo343 Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 We have just looked at Inventry too and i too was taken back on how much it costs!! Needless to say, i've not heard anything back from the powers about this since handing them the quote.

Totally agree, it's more of a personal thing. No one has a clue how much I save the school doing a lot of project work on my own - the way I see it too, is if I didn't do it it would never get done
RichCowell Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 We've had it for years now and have been really happy with it... when you compare it with other solutions it's easy to see what you're paying for and why it's the market leader... There has been loads of development and updates in that time, and the support has been fantastic when needed... also on the occasions you have to search to see if/when visitors have been on site, it's so much easier than it was with paper systems.
FN-GM Posted May 10, 2018 Author Posted May 10, 2018 the support has been fantastic when needed... I wish I could say the same!
DGardiner Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 https://www.swipedon.com/ is what we use. were on an enterprise plan with discount making it cheaper than the premium subscription, costs are an ipad/mount/printer where you need them
Accura2k7 Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 Try a different supplier of Inventry, if you ring them they will send you to Virtue Tech which we're expensive compared (and I heard they have a company link somewhere) to IDNS who are also resellers, saved quite a bit by shopping around!

As for Inventry, we're getting a VMS for our new site, and rejected Inventry on a cost and features basis. I realise it gets good reviews, but wasn't for us. Could you try playing one reseller off another to drive the price down?

mattysmith80 Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 If its simply just for visitors which in most cases it is, then we use vPass - website is vpass.io Its an iPad App that costs £17 a month... It has limilations like not being able to sync with Sims but alot of schools dont require that level of integration. The only investment is an iPad, Brother printer and a stand for the iPad to live in. 2
