Hi all... We are a large campus of 7 buildings and I have been asked to look into a system to be able to notify staff and possibly students of terror attacks if one was to occur on our site.

The system needs to be discreet. I was thinking of a texting service.

Has anyone done or seen anything similar?

Netsupport Notify is a popular one. We never got it running 100% and it crashed during a fire alarm test today. However, support is normally very fast and good and we do use the rest of the suite (School and DNA) with very few problems.

I second NetSupport Notify as I just brought it and works great!

There is 1 negative point however, they advertise supporting Terminal Server setups but this is on a very basic level and not detailed on the website nor do sales have a clue.

The message sends out across all sessions on a server and cannot send out across individual sessions. I found this out quickly while testing and NS tech support were fully aware of this.

Apparently it’s on the roadmap to get this as an individual session message instead of whole server but something to just be aware of, especially when buying perpectual licensing with no SA.

I ended up getting SA for free until said update is made.

Overall the product is cheap as chips and does exactly what it’s built for. It has reporting and basic message design templates although you cannot save worded templates which is rather annoying however if you send 1 test message to yourself as the message template you want it says in the application history and can be re-sent later.

I strongly suggest you contact NetSupport Tech Support during install and have them remote in and help for time. Their products all install and deploy the same (I use SCCM) + GP’s for control however the server/client encryption keys and best practises are confusing on first read of documentation until they run you through it once and it’s p*ss easy.

I did this for NetSupport School a year ago and then installing Notify was exactly the same as how they showed for School.

1 other slight gotcha, you have to decide if you want full screen messaging or window messaging during client deployment as this is only controlled in a config file which is a little annoying also, would be nice to have this is an option during messaging.

Ow and it also messages over logon/lock screens too so definitely meets child protection needs.

1 of my best purchases so far this year.

Another +1 for NS notify. Had it in place for nearly a year now and I love it. More useful for sending technical service messages out eg internet down etc.

No thrills Piece of software that does exactly what it says on the tin for a very respectable price.

Really pleased with it. Support are very friendly and helpful. I would recommend buying the support agreement maybe for the first year just to get you up and running.

My only negative of the software is the limited user authentication options and allocating permissions for the people who are able to send messages.

Currently all contributors have full access to areas that you probably wouldn’t want them to have like change server connection settings and other things which probably would hinge on the software functionality. After speaking with net support they are looking into developing this feature

Just as an update. Netsupport technical support reached out and managed to resolve the issue we were having.

It turned out to be a server port conflict and not the Netsupport software at fault. As always I could never fault the support from Netsupport and would 100% recommend them to everyone.
