Best AV and Anti-Spam Package

What would you judge to be the best AV and anti-spam package for Vista? Please, don't anyone mention Norton\Symantec...ever.

I've had a good experience with Kapersky, but I don't need any spyware tools as I already use Spyware Doctor from PC Tool.

Preferably one I can download and pay for online too. I am currently using AVG Free on my laptop and getting a bit fed up with it TBH, so any suggestions will be taken in and looked at.

What problem(s) are you experiencing with AVG? I've installed it on Vista a few times with no problems.

 

As for others, McAfee are ok, but I find it semi heavy on resources. At the schools I support, they all use Sophos. It also works ok, but at times can be heavy on resources. So long as you have 1GB of memory or more then it shouldn't slow your system down. Anything less and Sophos takes over your system!

I want something a bit more integrated i.e. with the anti spam. I get a LOT of email everyday and really need something to sort it out automatically as my inbox is rapidly filling up with various solutions to 'personal' problems and offers of snake oil to turn me into a sexual colossus.

FYI - just finished deploying Trend on our network. Had some real problems with it though - long story, but Sophos did not un-install correctly on the clients [ surprise surprise ], & a small .exe Trend uses - TSC.EXE was causing huge HD IO on the clients. Sorted now....

I run nod32 along side of comodo firewall which also has malware defence.

I use Avast Anti-Virus (free) but if you feel like splashing the spondulies then you can buy the pro version with more toys, bells and whistles in it. For Spam I use Mailwasher Pro (pro is paid for and allows multiple accounts) free edition avalable as well which does just one account. Both very good and I've had no Vista issues with them.

ESET NOD32 without a doubt, they do Home and Office versions of just antivirus or security versions. Have a look at Antivirus Software - from ESET

 

I use the Business Security version on all PC's at home, I also have it on my school laptop and am excluded from any of the Sophos updates.

And now PC World are doing the same 3 computer pack for £29 saving almost £30!!

AVG 8.0 free has been released. Maybe it's better than 7.5? I've yet to try it myself

What problem(s) are you experiencing with AVG? I've installed it on Vista a few times with no problems.

 

I can't get my AVG to auto update without going onto the AVG control panel and manual updating, selecting internet and then telling vista that I trust this program.

 

Happened ever since I put a new HDD in the comp and re-loaded vista (ultimate).

 

It is rather strange!! Are there settings somewhere that I can adjust?

Sorry for the delay, no one pop3 type account is the limit on the free version, but hte Pro version is unlimited from what I can see.

However, for the freeware solution, when fixing friends PCs, I use Comodo AV and Firewall.

for personal use im pretty lazy and use AVG Free.

 

for business i would go with Trend for servers/clients.

For email scanning i would personally go for a hosted virus/spam scanning service - Having tried it out its nice not to download all the nasty emails and then delete them thats now someone elses problem

lots of options out there i went for one that costs about £15 a months its not as fancy as mailcontrol etc but it works and allows me to release any false positves.

Nod 32 is the best I’ve seen by far. Its the only one that don’t slow down your computer.
