Brilliant, works a charm! Thank you. (And it turns out Microsoft Print to PDF is better--just automatically saves with the filename, whereas Adobe PDF prompts each time. Easy as pie now :))

you are most welcome!

New version released

ADDED: AutoSaveInterval and AutoBackupInterval timers have now been given a minimum and maximum accepted value for each. This is to help stop instability of EWP when a ridiculous value is specified like 1 second!! The new minimum value is 30 seconds to a maximum of 600 seconds (10 mins). These are also reflected in the ConfigEditorGUI. If you bypass these values by editing the config manually, there is a check in place within EWP that will use the default of 60 seconds if you are under the minimum or over the maximum values.

ADDED: Paragraph Markers (Pilcrow) has now been added on the ‘insert’ ribbon bar. You can also disable the button as per other buttons via the ConfigEditorGUI.

FIXED: Command line printing failed because any printer name specified, was not passed to the print function. This affected all command line operations that required the print function.

Download from all the usual places, examwritepad.com, links in edugeek signature, updater in the software.

Version 4.6.5.0 has been released and is an extension of the previous release. Below is the full rundown of fixes including the few for version 4.6.0.0

• FIXED: Command line printing failed because any printer name specified, was not passed to the print function. This affected all command line operations that required the print function.

• CHANGED: The EWP log file will now be stored in the Windows TEMP folder by default because a lot of schools were deleting user profiles at logoff so therefore had no log file to debug any issues with. But don’t worry, if you prefer to log to the user profile temp folder, just set the windows temp folder permission to read-only for the logged-in user/group and EWP with fallback to the user profile temp folder.

• FIXED: When ‘ForceSave’ option is set, and you have saved your file to continue, if you then click the SaveAs button, ‘ForceSave’ would kick in and you cannot cancel it until you save the file. There is no need to continue to apply the ‘ForceSave’ option once the file has been saved and is being saved to a file.

• ADDED: New config option ‘SkipDeleteOldVersionsCheck’ which will not delete any older ExamText backup files upon launch. There may be instances where you wish to keep them for an indefinite period just in case you need to refer back to them. As always set the option to 1 to skip otherwise 0 will check and delete if older than 48 hours.

• FIXED: The custom message window used in EWP had the default window title of ‘Form1’ now change to ‘ExamWritePad - Notification/Message’ to match the other forms used in EWP. This was a little bugbear of mine that needed doing for consistency. Other forms used have been checked and renamed also.

• FIXED: Long standing issue where the AutoBackup worker and PowerStatus worker would try to get a ‘busy’ status before being initialised. The function would still run but threw an exception that needed attention.

Hi,

We have been using EWP without issues but i have just updated our machines and now EWP no longer opens up at all.

I have looked in event viewer end hopefully you can see the errors where experiencing all we have done it run windows updates since it last worked perfectly..

Any ideas why updating windows has killed EWP

Hi,

From looking, certainly at the first image you attached, it is missing a few of the DLLs that come with EWP. I have checked the version online and downloaded it extract it and launch it with now issues and no-one else has reported it either.

So just make sure that where ever EWP is located that the "Assemblies" sits along side it.

The second image supplied will be a knock-on from the first image.

Think we had to install the Microsoft[emoji2400] Visual C++ 2013 Runtime (x64) 12.0.40.664 on the latest version of Windows

Yes you do need to do this but I assumed this was already done and they upgraded the instance of EWP, not running it on fresh new windows Builds. :-)

What is interesting to know, Did you I upgrade or install fresh new? Strange that an upgrade would know out something you would of had to of had installed since version 3 of EWP

Clr.dll might be corruption of the sort of the framework, re-install windows or upgrade windows should fix this.

Hoping this may be the same issue or not but we had the following problem today on some machines.

Andy suggested uninstalling .net and then re installing but that makes no difference. Some accounts work others don't.

This does seem like a windows issue, if EWP work on a PC, then EWP is working and the file permissions/group policies for the user account are ok.

Can’t possibly be an EWP issue but would never say that 100%.

Normally I would say a windows update has caused it, but intermittency like this is now to me and our school it is working ok across 15 laptops and many desktops.

EWP is built universally and not specifically for our network environment, I have always wrote it on my own personally laptop and test domain on a VM.

Not sure what else to say…

Its driving us mad! When it works which is 98% of the time it is fantastic, ticks all of our exam boxes but when this happens it can cause a bit of chaos.

Were running it locally on the PC/Laptop's.

im 99% sure it was a windows update that caused our issue think it messed the KernalBase.dll file up in windows and re-installing Microsoft® Visual C++ 2013 Runtime (x64) 12.0.40.664 fixed it

I’m really at a loss with this, the only things that have changed is the text control supplied by a third party. I think I’m going to have to look at this.

What is worse is that it works on my home domain, my school domain and we have no issues on 1909 or 2004 even on 21H1 released last week. We don’t have any issues here.

I need to start collecting information while people roll back to a working version like 4530, but at least from this build number I can get a clear indication what might have changed.

With those that have issues, can I ask that you supply me with your build of windows, all subsequent updates installed, your EWP config file, unless you tested it with the default config and it still failed, would love to know the result of this also.

Please email over to [email protected]

As you know I will work my backside off to get to the bottom of this and come back with a working version for all.

Thanks for your continued support and help with this!! Much appreciated [emoji1303][emoji846]
