Hi All

We have several laptop trolleys within the Academy and I need to put measures in place (booking system) to record/track them. Currently the laptops seem to free roam between classrooms/trolleys, hence why some trolleys have 10 laptops and other have none.

I have read its possible to use the Library Management system to do this (Eclipse.net) by adding the trolleys/laptops as a Hardware Resource

.net Online User Guide

Has anybody managed to do this successfully, if so how? Can you scan the Trolleys in as a resource and scan the laptops within them?

We track the laptops issued by our learning resource centre via eclipse.net. They are, however, taken from the trolley and scanned individually before being handed to the relevant student/teacher. We only have one trolley of 30 that are issued in this way so it is not too onerous.

Hi

This might work well for our SEN Dept as they want to book laptops out to individual students, and then book them back in at the end of the day. Could a complete trolley be scanned out? for those staff wanting a whole trolley of laptops?

Eclipse.net isn't able to track books let alone other resources to the point where so many people here are looking for alternatives or just using Excel. Would strongly recommend doing something else. Quite easy to do that in excel with a barcode reader too...

Really how? Issue with a spreadsheet on a shared drive is that only one person can access it at a time (unless its uploaded to O365 in a shared location). Thinking about assigning that horrible task to the reprographics employee. I need to get something up and running fairly quickly, not having the greatest amount of time to code a spreadsheet.

Again "quickly" is not something you can attribute to Eclipse.net. It's an hour's job even with a large number of devices and would work very easily with Excel.

With a bit more thought I'd strongly suggest using a more appropriate system for that task. Do you have a room booking system? Those are usually better equipped for resource allocation too, things like Room Booking System. Some helpdesks also have that function. D

No room booking system as such, we have classcharts which I looked into earlier to set a trolley up as a room, but did not seem appropriate. Could this be done through SIMS? I looked into Roombooksystem.co.uk but they don't want to pay for it. Looking at getting Spiceworks setup, would this have the facility to do it?

Don't think it does but haven't looked at it for quite a while. Worth a look anyway, it's great otherwise :)

SIMS doesn't have that facility out of the box but pay $$$ and there's addons I believe.
