The ones last year you just had to be really nice to them and they would give them out (but had a very limited number of them.) When I was speaking to one of the Microsoft team last year, it was basically left overs from another event they had on.

I didn't see as many freebies compared to last year, I either didn't look hard enough or suppliers are cutting back! Also thanks to the Edugeek stand for the 2 slices of pizza, the lanyard and badge! 1
