It's another reason why things like this must go through the Governors but conveniently..... this one didn't.. Another reason why schools have auditors.. it is public money.. there are schools struggling and this happens.. this is beyond disgusting... £100K.... that's a few teachers for a year.. that's my entire team and their pensions with some left over for a year... £100K.. the job title doesn't even make sense for this..

Zoom7000 Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Academies get never ending bad press, but as someone who has gone through a lot of change, TUPE via BSF and TUPE from LA to MAT, I have to say that the press that most small MATs get us unfair. Our MAT has definitely updated its policies and procedures for the better. We have much more stringent processes especially for purchasing and procurement. The due diligence levels are very high and I believe it does very well to ensure that public money is spent correctly and only in the interest of teaching and learning. We also have auditors in several times a term keeping track of finances and expenditure. If anything, I believe we are much more thoroughly compliant as a MAT than we were as an LA school. 1

And some of this bad press is spot on. Is education any better thanks to the whole Academy/MAT transfer? Questionable and that's the problem. Course - you do have a point some MATs/Academies will be doing a better job with real justifiable wages, priority on improving teaching and learning for students which is what schools are about. One of the many reason why people are angry over the whole Academy transition is that it never did fix education. People being made redundant while MAT/Academy execs justify above £100K wages and some even going above the £150K marker. Some people have turned Academies in to an opportunity for the ambitious and greedy over what education is about - improving teaching and learning for the students. Something I personally have completely witnessed. On top of that, education has become a lot like politics - full of lies and deceit to the general public. Something negative happens and people are told to ignore it.. instead look at that small positive over there. Education, like many other public services are being questioned and rightly so. It's not good enough and the only way it will continue to improve is looking at the negatives hard faced and sorting them out instead of pretending everything is hunky dory. This entire thing reminds me of Donald Trump, he's too obsessed with the press making him look bad because he's said or done something stupid (again) instead of being clear and honest with his people. So he provides his own "real news" of positives only, plays golf all day and justifies making the rich richer through greed and opportunities.. instead of fixing America's problems. 2
LeMarchand Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Assuming 5 to 6 weeks of holiday/year means that if he had 8 year's worth of accrued holiday pay he had about a year's worth of pay due - assuming he took no time off at all. So £100k in one year still means £50k/year... I wonder what the IT manager was/is on? Free school meals + £50/week.
