A quote for a emergancy call out.

hi,

 

iv just got back from an emergancy call out for a school i do some vollentry work at....

 

they had a flood. and had to pull out all the ICT equipment what included 2 servers and various other IT equipment.

 

iv fitted there router, and 2 servers into the switch. and got there file,print,DHCP server back online. aswell as there sims server.

 

its been refitted in a temp state to allow the school to still use there IT equipment before county comes in and moves there servers and switchs to a diffrent location...

 

im not clued up on pricing and i was wondering if somone could give me some advice on how much i should quote the gov's on how much it will cost them?

 

it took around about a hour and 15-20 mins after refitting the router,repatching,installing the 2 servers. and checking internet and printer connectivity.

 

anyone able to give me a rounded price??

Given that it's voluntary work, surely you should only charge expenses at the most?

its not vollentry work, it started as vollentry work. but the only reason i went in today, was because they required someone for emergancy call out and i know the system, they have already authed that they will call me out and pay me for it. i just need to give them a quote for how much...

If my team do "extra curricular" work for our primaries e.g. we refitted a network for one in half term when they should have been off they get £25 and hour.

£35 per hour, so thats £35 for the first hour and £17.50 for the next so I'd say £50 for the lot

A tip decide what you want to be paid then add some to the amount and then in invoice give them discount.

We get approx double time for the first hour and time and a half for the rest. If it's after midnight it 22:00 aparently other expenses are taking into account, what they are, is unknown as i have never had to claim with my current employer to date. These i believe include time in Lieu, which is basiclly paid leave, either half a day, a day on top of your annaul leave entitlement.

I think I would say £40ish per hour although if you were a large company they would probably charge nearer the £100 mark.

When I worked in my previous job, I paid our engineers 4 hour minimum callout for any out of hours work > 15 minutes.

 

So whatever you normally work for per hour x 4.

 

But its up to you. Just make sure you don't believe you are ripping anyone off but are happy to receive due recompense.

 

Best to come up with a formula for what you claim and just say its what you've heard is the going rate for this sort of callout work.

Remember you are asking them to pay for your expertise, not just your time...

 

I'd go with Si's suggestion... £20 per hour, four hours plus travel and if you're feeling generous put a discount on to be nice. If anything though, bear in mind that if you ask for peanuts they may expect more the next time something goes pear shaped.

think tech guy's figures are about right and what simplesi and contink have said is valid.

 

For emergency call out hourly rate x4....so if you're hourly rate is £35/hour (it shouldn't be anything below that) i'd charge £140. I would say that includes travel.

 

Trust me they'll pay it.....we've paid complete numpties to come in and spend half the morning to do a bit of soldering up to £250 for the first hour in the past. They were travelling a long way, but even if you've only travelled a short distance i think £140-£150 is reasonable for the volume of work you've done for them.

 

you might want to think about having a first hour fixed rate. And then any work beyond that must be charged at a half hourly or hourly rate. This would be for remedial and call out work, as you don't know how long you need to be there for.

£200 callout + travel (covers first 4 hours). Then £50/hr after that. If they moan then knock 20% off on the invoice. Works for me, and stops any 'pretend' emergencies.

Charge roughly what you get you for your paid job for scheduled stuff, double it for emergency call-out. Charge in blocks of 2 or 4 hours. Include expenses (lunch bought from the nearby Tesco will have cost more than your normal lunch that day, etc).

 

Of course, since you've already done the work for them, you could charge wtf you want - it isn't like they can say no now

I don't reckon thats anywhere near enough - you wouldn't get a plumber or electrician for that money. I broke a key in our back door the other day - it was £70 call out for a locksmith and he was only there about 5 minutes.
