Asset stickers/labels

What does everyone use for labelling assets? We have a label printer but the labels are often easily peeled off by students on our laptops.

 

We don't really want those stickers/labels that leave a horrible watermark/mess after peeled either.

Unfortunately, all I have see is the ones that can peel off easy, and the ones that flake when you try and take them off. If we need to label anything, we just use a dymo type label sticker.

Dymo label sticker printer to put computer names on laptops and workstations. Don't sticker anything else.

The asset labels we use DO leave a residue when removed but we use label remover to address this issue (We really don't see the need to remove these anyway. This is mostly done by students)

 

Station name labels don't last long but we use a Brother label printer (more in hope than expectation that we will find them again, even on staff machines)

Dymo labels for things like "R73-X01" (first (going clockwise) Windows 10 machine in Rm 73) on the front and back.

 

However, actual asset recording is the model and serial into AD via a script that runs post-domain join.

I labeled all the PCs using a silver paint pen, it's not an 'asset tag' as such but it enables me to identify them and they can't remove it.

We use a Brother P-Touch labeller, but we only label mobile devices. They get picked off by the students anyway, so we usually have to go back to our asset register and look for the device through the serial number. We also use the Brother P-Touch for labelling network cables etc.

We purchased a bulk of asset stickers from customlabels.co.uk. Good company to work with and the stickers are 'Ultra Destruct'. Means they flake off rather than peel. Students can remove them over a few lessons rather than a single one. You can slow them down but you'll need to re-label at some point.

We have a laptop with a plug in reader and asset management software on which we export the data up into the cloud for backup.

 

Works well for us...and not that expensive either so they can be replaced as they become damaged, depends where you place them on the equipment as to whether the students scrape them off.

Our assets are marked with a unique asset number using SelctaMark stencils. Those assets then carry that number for life in our inventory. They also for the basis of computer hostnames. Easier than identifying using serial numbers. They fade a bit after a few years, but can't be removed.

 

We then use a Brother P-touch for any visual name labels. The Brother P-touch can also print barcodes (in case we want to run round with a scanner). Students will be able to peel them off, but they can be replaced easily enough and that still leaves the stenciled tag somewhere on the unit.

We buy the asset labels here, customisable and very difficult to remove. Bonus is their Free Cloud based asset management tool, that swung it for me.
