swiggle on XP

is there anyone out there using swiggle on exa broadband with windows XP desktops?I've got an oddly specific issue where none of the XP desktops in the school can access swiggle.windows 7 and windows 10 devices seem to be able to, so i don't think its a filtering issue at the moment

I don't think you'll even get it working in another browser, other than using an old and unsupported build of Chrome or Firefox. It's a bit like putting a sticking plaster on a broken arm.

Apologise that it's out of your hands, it, like so many other programs and websites will no longer work on XP systems, you have said before but you've not been allowed to do anything about it. Make sure your SLT are copied in. In 2017, I'd be quite happy to turn off the network until they do something about it.

Its a school i'm at 3 hours every other week. Along with a few others.

 

We're in constant contact with a lot of them about the XP machines being at risk and they constantly ignore us.

this would be nearly 100 unfortunate accidents across multiple sites.

 

I think even this lot would clock on.

 

though at this rate it won't be long till they naturally don't work anyway. XP won't even be able to access the internet soon.

I always mention safeguarding when schools don’t listen to XP / win 2003 problems.

Is this the search engine for kids? Couldn't you suggest one of the others and use Group Policy to implement?

BGInfo on wallpaper with big text stating machine is a security risk, login script to bring up error message stating machine is at risk and some software will not work.

 

It might be worth installing Firefox though and seeing if that works... even if it doesn't work, apparently that will at least have some security patches until June 2018 (source: Which Browser Is Most Secure on Your Old Windows XP System?).

There seems to be a few (Google children's search engines) but the one I was asked to set up by an IT Co-Ordinator who is apparently "in the know" was KidRex - Kid Safe Search Engine. No XP machines to test on, though - not even a VM!

 

https://www.kiddle.co/ looks quite colourful, and Dibdabdoo.com child kid safe search appears to have been designed when XP was current - so may be a decent bet.
