Presumably they will also be re-engineering the prey species to reduce birth rates to stop out of control population growth, and they have some sort of plan to increase plant growth to compensate for all the new herbivores.

Also wasn't this a cut subplot in Zootopia?

This mob are possibly even more unhinged than the flat earthers… ‘Herbivorize Predators’ is “actively researching” ways of making all carnivorous creatures herbivorous to end suffering.

Perhaps it's simply a money making scam? Or many of them don't actually believe this nonsense, they just spout it to be "edgy and controversial" and to provoke a response and some conflict.

I have thought the same about (many) "flat Earthers" for ages.

I'd pay money to watch them explaining things to, say, a hungry polar bear.

could give it a go with a pack of Linda McCartney sausages

I suspect it'll be a pretty short show!

and best viewed from a distance

It’s so much more than hungry land mammals. There are birds… (eg blue tits eating caterpillars), marine life (eg whales, tuna, crabs, corals…), insects…

And, as has been pointed out, there’s how to control the herbivores which would breed with no predation and how to ensure sufficient plant life exists for all these herbivores. There’s a food chain for a reason!

It’s a completely impossible goal.

Other problem is that if we magically stop everything eating animals e.g. rabbits

guess what happens

Aussies might want to chip in here

or should we combine this campaign with a parallel one to teach rabbits and mice etc etc safe sex and responsible behaviour and maybe the concept of monogamy and Christian values

and then lets wonder about wasps who no longer eat aphids but buzz enthusiastically for a soya substitute

and then the aphids........

well - we can keep going with problems

maybe the contraception industry needs more investment to be able to branch out into other species

I wonder how you give every aphid in a garden a pill??

or maybe an IUD would be better - can they consent???

the lengths of silly you can plumb on this one are just endless

This isn't about "re-education", I read it as they're talking about genetic manipulation predator species to remove the biological need/drive to eat meat. If they can do that, then re-engineering of prey species to reduce birth rates isn't much more of a reach. You're just talking about the genetic manipulation of every species on the planet.:D

Maybe that is what the chem trails are for???

IIRC correctly there are certain animals which have a basic physical need to eat meat (I'm thinking cats for some reason, but there maybe others)?

Yes, the loss of predators in the food chain will lead to some others becoming over populated and then might require culling if you are into messing about with nature to that degree.

On the reproduction side of things there is only one animal we really need to stop breeding...

It's a ridiculous concept really, but that doesn't stop these types of people coming up with bonkers ideas and you can't argue with stupid... I still wish every flat-earther could be sent up in a rocket!

For the most part they can only be dangerous to themselves and I'm not sure how any of it could be put into practise, but it's like saying I don't believe in atoms because I can't see them... that doesn't really affect anyone (although then someone saw them and decided to see what would happen when they split them and we know that didn't end well)... If they want to believe the Earth is flat good luck to them, it doesn't really matter. If they actually want to start messing about with animal genetics and actually manage to do it, that won't end well either!

That sounds like a pitch for some kind of low budget sci-fi movie that ends up with well meaning scientists trapped in an underground lab fleeing from very unhappy mink and armed only with a case of chickpeas and a sack of lentils.

It's like the Red Dwarf episode where a Polymorph consumes all of Rimmer's anger.

"Call it extreme if you like, but I propose we hit it hard and hit it fast with a major - and I mean major - leaflet campaign."

There's another choice line from that scene, but it's likely NSFW.

One of the problems with things like this is telling whether this is a spoof or serious

difficult to tell on the old interweb these days

I mean - it is crazy from every direction

but......

I did have a thought (sorry)

if they find a way to persuade all the predator to eat chickpeas and lentils

and then have to reduce the breeding rates of the rabbits

then they will need a system to distribute the conversion system

which is clearly what the chem trails are for!!!!

I'd say go a bit further with it and, if you can deploy genetic re-working of animals through nanomachines then we could group them up and deploy templates to them. Like Jamf but for animals.

There'd be teething problems I'd imagine, like all the lions go "quack" until the new firmware comes out and all the marmosets display "incorrect password" until we manually reset them.

Might need some more details about the display system and how to manually reset

but I refuse to give details of my ideas for reasons connected to ponds
