Screen flicker on 3 PC's

Hi All,

 

I have 3 PC's all the same make and model (HP EliteOne 800 G1) and they have developed a screen flicker, its as though the refresh rate is wrong like what you would get on a CRT monitor, i cant change the rate, its on 60hz and no other option.

Anyone had this before, it's just so strange that its 3 of the exact same PC.

 

I've tried safe mode with minimal startup and still it flickers

I checked to see if its something to do with the LAN connection as i read it can cause that issue and it wasn't that.

I have checked the drivers are up to date and the correct one for the onboard GPU.

I have tried removing the GPU heat sink removing old thermal paste and applying new and that has done nothing.

I can't see the flicker on white back grounds it may still be flickering and the white just hides it well.

It intermittent in terms of how bad it is, if i keep restarting the PC's its sometimes worse than others and on the odd occasion it doesnt flicker at all.

The point in which it starts flickering is after the windows 10 boot up logo (blue windows logo) as soon as it starts up to go to the log on screen thats when it flickers.

If you leave the PC on long enough eventually the flickering stops, like now im staring at one of the PC's which has been left switched on and idle for the past 15 minutes and now the flickering has stopped.

 

At an end with it now, any ideas guys?

Could you try an older O/S such as Win7 to see if it still has the issue? This would at least rule out if it's a Win10 issue.

Sounds to me that is could be a hardware fault, especially as it's happen on 3 of the same model and I'm guessing probably from the same batch, have you check if this is a known issue with HP?

What OS exactly ? We had some laptops with intel chipsets that had the same effect using Win 10 1703. We went back to 1607 in the end as nothing could fix it. Haven’t tried 1709 yet but got my image ready now!

They did the same on Windows 7 too and as this issue was reported i thought i'd take the opportunity to upgrade to windows 10 with a clean install hopinmg it was a software issue but it still appears to do it. The PC's are an all in one and i have just tried the display port and plugged a monitor in and no flicker so im guessing its an hardware issue...

Yes sounds to me like the actual TFT screens at fault no doubt due to cheap/ageing power supply components/capacitors etc. I would just swap out the screen with a spare - but that's not an option with all in ones.

Are the PC's all in the same room? If so it could be a power interference issue.

yes they were but now they are in my office and still doing it, i have took the back off the PC as on the right hand side of the screen its warm and this is where the flickering is coming from and now it isn't as bad and it stops flickering much quicker (in seconds rather than minutes)... its very odd...
