rad Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 IT teacher wanted me to install TeamViewer, I think my IT Tech colleague installed it on the office PC to test, but I’m not keen to put it on his classroom computer due to the security risks Team Viewer have had in the past. Is this safe to use or is there a better one. I tried to convince him to use a wireless presenter but he doesn’t want this (he has one), he wants to use his phone.

AlanD Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Assuming your wireless devices do not connect on the same "network" VLAN as desktops you will need some kind of firewall rule with specific access to teacher stations/protocols etc without allowing access to - for example servers. ...but of course allowing such access - with teamviewer or otherwise is always going to be a potential risk.

If they want full-on control (assuming you're Windows), Microsoft have an RDP app for both iOS and Android which they could download. Though this would require either faffing about with firewall rules (and murdering the teachers' mobile data allowance) or putting their phone on the WiFi.

keyboards Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 We use here Wireless presenter ie Kennington etc Tablet connected to the tv Both are more than good enough, Team Viewer is massively over kill for something like this To be honest I don't see what's wrong with just using a wireless presenter

Bugger, yeah. Didn't think of that. RDP + iPad + AppleTV + Projector, then? What about VNC Viewer? There's Android/iOS apps for that too, which should satisfy the teacher requirement?

Wants to control the PC from anywhere in the classroom? We gave one teacher a touch pad combo (keyboard/mouse) and it's relatively small. Do they want to just use their phone for the sake of it? To look 'fancy'? If so - TeamViewer costs to use for work. It's relatively secure etc but it's down to your school if you want to use this.

Give them a wireless remote and be done with it! BTW we use the Logitec R400's - as it has the On/Off on the side it saves us a fortune in batteries compared to the Kensingtons. 1

Ah, but look at it this way; which device are they more likely to lose/destroy/ run out of battery and then complain to you that it's not working/ let the kids play with?

A remote desktop solution sounds good though to get the most out of this.
