Its just a standard .php web page and we link the various links, to the MMS location of the file.

 

I dont think theres a front end in place as standard, although I could be wrong.

Would ruuning videos across a cat5 switched network have a detrimental effect on the rest of the network?

It's been suggested to me that we copy all our videos to dvd and run them from a central storage on the network but I was a bit uncertain as to wether the network would grind to a halt.

Mahoosive bump!!

How is this going for anyone (particularly john)? Has anyone heard anything more about the license from BECTA?

Just had a PSE teacher ask me about the best way to provide a DVD to a few classrooms for the tutor programme and while she was at it is there away to get rid of her doodery old vids. Thinking this will be the best way but unsure about the licensing situation.

Heres what we do: -

 

Film (DVD, Video, or TV)

Linux to rip (TV card), Linux (Samba) to share, Videolan to play on our workstations.

 

Audio(mp3)

Linux to rip, Linux (Samba) to share, coolplayer to play on our workstations.

 

 

Our languages team LOVE having all those old cassettes as mp3's!

 

We are currently looking for some mp3 players for our languages dept (so they can lend them out for revision) and for our library to rent out 'talking books' ('uncool' to carry a book around - but great to listen to an mp3 player)

Its going well, no change to licencing, iPlayer makes life even easier, just take from there and done. Just hours copying videos to DVD or PC and tidying them up etc, it will take years, I think we need to employ someone on a one year contract just to do that job, work with departments to do there videos etc, a one year contract would do it easily if thats all they did

 

For Licencing, if its originally recorded under ERA just burn to DVD and label as required and its done, pre-bought stuff off the shelf check it out, some companies don't bother even replying to requests for conversion or backup of your video to DVD

Hello and sorry to bump such an old post

 

we are looking into a Video Server to store media for classes. the idea being to remove the old Physical media (dvds and vhs tapes). We are also planning to store TV Recordings on the server.

 

has there been any licensing sorted out to cover this yet.

 

Ive read a few threads which mention PVS and ERA. but get the impression that storing on a server and then viewing from a client pc isnt covored by either of them.

 

Any help or advice would we greatly appriciated.

So the TV Recordings are covered by the ERA (checking with LEA atm) as long as we can put the ERA warning/disclaimer at the beginning.
