Thanks for that Gibbo. So the TV Recordings are covered by the ERA (checking with LEA atm) as long as we can put the ERA warning/disclaimer at the beginning. Thanks again Dave

Hello and sorry to bump such an old post we are looking into a Video Server to store media for classes. the idea being to remove the old Physical media (dvds and vhs tapes). We are also planning to store TV Recordings on the server. has there been any licensing sorted out to cover this yet. Ive read a few threads which mention PVS and ERA. but get the impression that storing on a server and then viewing from a client pc isnt covored by either of them. Any help or advice would we greatly appriciated. Thanks Dave

Hiya we had a similar problem, dont have time to check if its same as the one posted above but ours turned out to be a server2008 issue. search for and read up on KB969111, sorry if its the same as already posted Dave

Hiya and thanks for the reply. I Dont think they upload massive ammounts of Data, just that they prefere to drag and drop multiple files instead of using a zip file (you can see some of their eyes glaze over when you mention Zip files The VLE in general is something ive fallen into as the original Teacher who took it on has requested help. I thought that WebDAV was more for administrative purposes, so i wasnt worried about the folder view initially. only now am i starting to realise how many of them are using it and now complaining about the file view. Ill get a much better idea of how much data there is on there as im going to have to drag the course backups off over the summer. I would still like to hear from anyone who has found a work around for the folder view problem, in the meantime ill try to convince the staff that the zip option is teh way forwards. Thanks again Dave

Hiya Up until a couple of months ago we were running IE6 on all our PCs but an update or updates to moodle developed problems with editing courses. with this in mind we updated to IE8 (we bypassed IE7 as in general it seemed much slower than 8 and had previously decided to give it a miss). We then developed the problem of accessing WebDAV, i quickly found the solution either on here or Moodle User Groups to set up a web location, which worked apart from the folder view was all numbers. I didnt realise at the time how many teachers used the webdav method to upload multiple files, and they really dont like the numbers and having to reference the number of the course to the folder they upload too. I can understand their frustrations and wonder if anyone has found a solution/ reason/ cause for this and if it can be changed. Thanks in advance DaveT

Further Infomation Our mandatory pupil profile was created via a roaming profile in order to get rit of first run in office etc, it looks as though this has also made the default mydocs location a network location. found the following in event viewer Successfully redirected folder My Documents. The folder was redirected from <\\x-server\data\pupils_data\x-USER> to <\\x-server\data\pupils_data\user>. For more information, see Help and Support Center at Events and Errors Message Center: Basic Search. Where x-user is the default location and user is the logon name being used when the problem occured. Now all i can think is that because the original location for my docs isnt C:\my documents, there are asumptions made that the user is using a roaming profile. does this make sence to anybody Thanks in advance Dave

- jsnetman - Thanks for the advice, this was one of the only things i could think of, having a freshly created profile doesnt seem to be relevant to this issue. - Further investigation into the clients Event Viewer the only problematic thing i can find is the following entry:- Windows has detected that offline caching is enabled on the roaming profile share - to avoid potential profile corruption, offline caching must be disabled on shares where roaming user profiles are stored. Now this is a tad confusing as we only have 2 roaming profiles in school, these are used by staff who live on site (boarding house masters). all other staff including ourselves have mandatory profiles. Offline files was always a pain for us, so we disabled it on our computer rooms (which this is). so im not really sure what this message is trying to tell us. has anyone got any ideas? Thanks Dave

Thanks Richard Ill give that a try to see if it gives any clues Dave

Hi were having a strange problem in our school where by randomly when a pupil logs on, some of the policy settings arent applied, occasionally they get active desktop but more often it simple refuses access to the redirected my docs. At first we thought it was our load balancing setup and one of the profiles was a little goofed, so we turned off the load balancing and now all profiles use the same template and settings. Yet still we have the random log ons which seem to bypass some of the policy. anyone got any ideas where to start? were running XP sp3 clients on server2k3. and input more than welcome thanks Dave

we come across this problem on a regular basis, just work on the basis that you will only get it to work on the primary display. Dont even think about trying to explain to a teacher why it works the way it does, because you WILL be there all day and at the end of it all they will look at you blankly and ask 'so it wont work then!'

we have some Promethean PX boards, they wouldnt work with anything but PX software that is causing no end of problems due to the fact that staff have their own laptops and expect things to just work. is it possible to use ative studio on PX boards? and vise versa?

anyone got a workaround for the driver not being signed? if i have to remove another 'Microsoft HID Device' im gonna cry. i was kind of hoping we could re arrange the driver priority or something.

cool, thanx for that. At least now in know that im not loosing the plot. ill try those treaks later, thinking about it im still on the base cd install, i may have connected using the old fashioned wire last time which may have updated the wireless software. ill give this a try hopefully tonight if i get chance. ( must get it working to stop my wife stealing one of my PCs in the evaning )

mmmm thought id replied to this last week :/ its a US robotics 5410 I re installed the Laptop over the weekend, it now sees the wireless network but wont take an ip off the network, seems as though the WAP doesnt recognise the MAC of the card even though i checked the MAC was added to the accepted list on the WAP. (tried static ip but got no further) Havent had chance to look into it further as yet, im thinking that maybe the Ubuntu instal has problems with no encryption although i have had it set up like that in the past. im sure i didnt have to tinker with anything major to get it running, i guess ill just check all the settings again.

sweet. I was always quite curious about the passive tanking while all the forum debates were raging. Ive since got a few good set ups by going passive. so i guess i should thank you.

Thanx for the quick replys guys, appriciated i tend to end up sitting and trolling through various websites/readmes/conf files. alot of the info i find tends to be massive over kill, a good example is the dhcpd.conf file, there were that many comments/explanations for things i didnt evan need that i was left slightly bewildered as to what i actually needed in the file. after finding a cut down verson of the file on the net i changed the IPs, ranges etc and now it looks pretty good. i managed to get service started but thats as far as ive got so far. it may all be running as its supposed to already, obviously i need to test it some. Im so much of a n00b that on the desktop i have a text document with a list of useful terminal commands (and a brief description of what they do). the target is basically to have a dhcp server that has a file share. the primary schools cried when i told them about getting a windows server on a seperate note, i have a laptop running dapper which uses pcmcia wireless cards to connect, well my card died so i had to replace it, how do i go about installing the new card as when i plug it in it quite simply does nothing. i had a quick play around trying to find somekind of add new hardware option but found nothing. i know the card works with linux and if need be ill just reinstall the laptop(its only used for surfing the net at home from the living room)

Hi im a complete linux n00b and decided that it would be a good idea to try to understand Linux enough to use it as a server base in the primary school that i service. I managed to get a samba share up and running once i got used to how linux did things (kind of, might have been blind luck). anyway, to really make this a total solution for my primarys i need to set it up as a DHCP server. Im using DHCP3 (sorry im going off memory atm) set up the conf file. the main thing im missing now is the correct commands to start, stop, restart and check the status of the dhcp service. if someone could give me a quick rundown of terminal commands for playing with the dhcp then id much appriciate it. (project is kind of on hold for the time being as were going through September blues at the high school >8-)

I played the first release of Guild wars they have since released an addon which we have to pay for, i cba with that tbh, i played it cos it was free. Anyone know if its still possible to play the original release since the addon was released? i had a lvl20 Mesmer/Elemental a lvl17 Warrior/Monk and a lvl11 Necro/mesmer (this char was awesome in the PVP arenas) i could 1 salvo an opponent in the cycle of three moves from longe range )

Q4 online gameplay seems much better these days, Rocket Arena is in Beta and plays brilliant over my LAN (only tried it online once but that seems to be alot better also) only prob i have with it now is that i installed the latest patch and now my rocket arena doesnt work, i guess ill have to wait until rocket arena catches up :/ i tend not to play 1 player games all the way through i get stuck somewhere then get bored before i figure it out. i think i was fighting a massive missile spewing spider (or was that another game :/)

is that the passive tanking pottsey? ill try and join that chat channel but its a pain in the backside having so many channels open all the time. In Game im a member of Bladerunners and their alliance Mordu's Angels character names as follows:- Dave Toz (main).

heheh Missions kinda suck compared to the rest of eve but atm they suite me best as i have little and iregular time to play. If i get involved with alliances or even corps, i start to get dragged in, all of a sudden im coming home from work straight onto eve and crawling to bed in the early hours of the morning, kinda bad when i have a wife and 2 kids  I guess Eve is just a little too good Dave

I was really dissapointed with Q4 online, i was a big Q3 fan (1vs1, Rocket Arena and 3wave Capturestrike) i wont be playing quake4 again until rocket arena or similar arive. The Gameplay is way too slow and the controls feel really vague, and lagg! damn its like playing Q3 over 56k

arrrgh the BoB forum whorage ftw, j/k It kind of saddened me all the BoB v PA thing, i respected quite a few corps involved, i joined blades pre Great Northern War so that i could hang with the corps i wanted to be with, then they all fell out and i ended up fighting against half of them. I tried to join the edugeek channel last night but it is passworded, could someone either let me know the password or invite me to the channel ingame. Ingame name = Dave Toz or Quenthos Darksin
