I've been tasked to create our new letterhead as a template but can't work out how to lock it so no one can change the way it looks.

I have the word document set up with the header at the top anf the footer at the bottom set which is okay but I have an image on the left in a column which I don't want edited.

Tried a few ways including sticking a table over the top with no borders but word goes haywire when you start typing.

Useless at word so would appreciate some tips.

I wanted to do the same before Christmas. What I ended up doing was making the header as I want it and converting it to an image and setting that as a background image. No the solution you wanted but I couldn’t find how to do what you want.

Our place wanted this as they'd been supplied with the letterhead as a jpg by our typesetters/printers.

I set it up through headers and footers as the background, saved it as a template and warned them they'd have trouble as the file is 1MB in size but did they listen?!

Now they whinge when they send documents in emails and people complain about the size of the attachments.....d'oh!

Solution to the size issue is save it as a PDF using PDF Creator which is free and MSI deployable :)

Yeah, right. You want me to train my end-users to do this as well? They'll be out in the playground setting fire to themselves before I could blink.

I installed CutePDF on their machines and I nearly had a riot.

Hi all

I have had a task set on Microsoft office.

In the footer i need to know the file name and where the document is held.

When i do this and move the document to a different place i.e desktop, it does not update automatically which i was hoping for.

Is there any way of doing making the document update automatically?

There's a microsoft article about automatically updating that field:

The FILENAME field does not automatically update when you open a document in Word

As for protecting the letterhead, why not pre print them, and then create a template with the right margins?

Another solution would be to create a plain white picture, make sure that it sits in front of text (using Text wrapping) and place over the letter head. Then make the picture transparent (using set transparency colour under Recolor in the Picture Tools). It won't prevent a determined member of staff, but should put off most...
