The company's Windows 10 chief has tweeted that developing new features and hardware for the Mobile version of the OS was no longer a "focus". Joe Belfiore added that he had also switched to Android himself. sted Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Enterprise management really was a lot easier than iOS and Android too, what a shame. never needed that. its just simple things like email ever since i got it android on my stock nexus has been pants at it i can see ive got email on another device but it dosent tell me for up to an hour and since updating to oreo it cant reliably sync with office 365 it just eats battery and things stick in the outbox (seems to be a common issue ive had to install outlook for work email). windows phone just worked it was simple and quick bar a broken headphone socket it never gave me any issues android every update seems to screw something up

LeMarchand Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Love my 640XL. I don't really find the "app gap" to be a major problem (obviously, there are some that I'd like, but nothing I NEED). This may change as things get out of date, though my pinned apps (maybe not Plex) are unlikely to stop working. I'd still be tempted if they had a fire sale on the HP x3! I do feel MS shot themselves in the foot by making upgrades from older versions of their phone OS versions generally impossible, and why they tried to claim that W10M was pretty much going to be the same as W10 on PC I'll never know. They should've concentrated on W10 on Arm and encouraging devs to develop apps that scale to all screen sizes and then launched a "real" Windows phone. I wonder if they're going to bother with that?

It's a bit of a mess. That said I love my 950, even if it's not as colourful as the 930. I'm a big fan of the tile interface, because frankly who needs 15 different home screens on a mobile phone? I'm not looking forward to the day I have to jump on team iOS or Android. Here's hoping Microsoft pock it up again at some point.

sted Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Here's hoping Microsoft pock it up again at some point. im not sure they can if you bought windows phone 7 you were shafted when 8 came out, if you had a still ok phone like a 925 when 10 came out you were shafted again. why would anyone trust ms a 3rd time with phones?

Wondering if I should roll back as it doesn't sound as if Maps will continue to get updates.

This was their main problem (alongside lack of apps). Once is frustrating but just about acceptable. Twice was ridiculous. I quite liked some parts of WM, never loved the menus or typeface but the tiled start screen was really good. Tbh it was hard to ever do a fair comparison to iOS or Android because from day 1 there wasn't the apps available and so I never felt I could use one as my personal phone. Was solid as a work phone though, went through 3 different Lumias when they were still releasing decent ones.
