Hi Guys

yet another random DPM issue. Everything was working fine two days ago, nothing has changed im just suddenly getting the following problem.

Setup is SQL 2012 on Server 2016 with DPM 2016

Im trying to add a server to an existing protection group, i get to the end of the "wizard" click on update and get the followingCapture.PNGthe console then restarts and the server i "added" is not there. Ive checked and all the services its moaning about and they are all running

i go into event viewer and have the following error:

Event ID: 999

Task Category: None

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

An unexpected error caused a failure for process 'msdpm'. Restart the DPM process 'msdpm'.

We've only just recently upgraded our existing DPM2012 / 2012 R2 Server with an additional DPM2016 / Server 2016 / SQL 2016 Server and not experienced that specific issue (as) yet.

Process of elimination really....

Any recent Windows Updates?

Any recent group policy changes?

Firewall enabled / exceptions?

Aforementioned services stopped / failed?

Checked event logs?

Is the DPM Console crashing on the DPM Server itself? or on a remote Workstation?

Latest DPM2016 Update Rollup applied? (https://buildnumbers.wordpress.com/scdpm/#2016)

Sorry not specific fixes for your fault, but hopefully may help!

Hi MYK-IT

no recent windows updates, or group policy changes, firewall is off, ive checked the services and they are all running.

looking in the error logs, MSDPMCurr.errlog, this seems to be the main issue

everettexception.cpp(762) CRITICAL Exception Message = Replica Set already present with properties not matching input requirements of type System.ArgumentException, process will terminate after generating dump

but im not having much luck finding out what that means

Perhaps scrap existing (problematic) protection group and create a new one (possibly with different name too). Previously protected data can still be kept, and will be listed as unprotected something or other.. (not near a DPM server at present)

unfortunately we upgraded from DPM 2012r2 and kept the legacy storage so i cant create any new protection groups due to ReFS.

I ran a chkdsk and SFC on the server just because i know that sometimes fixes MMC crashes, restarted the host that had the VM i was trying to backup and its magically working now.

So problem solved for now...

appreciate the suggestions :)
