While Warner Bros. remains in the lead to land film distribution rights to the megafranchise — whose deal with Sony expired after 2015’s Spectre — a couple of unlikely suitors have emerged that also are in hot pursuit: Apple and Amazon. The tech giants are willing to spend in the same ballpark as Warners, if not much more, for the rights, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. MGM has been looking for a deal for more than two years, and Sony, Universal and Fox also had been pursuing the property, with Warners and Sony the most aggressive. But the emergence of Apple — which is considered such a viable competitor that Warners is now pressing MGM hard to close a deal — and Amazon shows that the digital giants consider Bond one of the last untapped brands (like a Marvel, Pixar or Lucasfilm) that could act as a game-changer in the content space. Apple’s and Amazon’s inclusion in the chase would indicate that more is on the table than film rights, including the future of the franchise if MGM will sell or license out for the right price.

Arthur Posted September 20, 2018 Author Posted September 20, 2018 Cary Fukunaga to Direct 'James Bond 25' Cary Fukunaga has been named director for the 25th installment of the 007 franchise, with Daniel Craig reprising his role — reportedly for the last time — as the iconic spy with the license to kill. Bond producers Eon made the announcement Thursday, adding that production will start in March for a worldwide release date of 14 Feb. 2020, shifting Bond from its traditional winter slot (and some four months back from its previous launch date of 25 Oct. 2019). Fukunaga's appointment marks the first time an American director has helmed a 007 film in the 55-year history of Eon's Bond titles (1983's Never Say Never Again was helmed by the late Irvin Kershner, but this is the only James Bond film not produced by Eon).

But if anyone can do it, Fleabag can. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who created, wrote and starred in the eponymous BBC hit, has been brought in to liven up the script of the next James Bond film, still known as Bond 25. She has been specifically requested by Daniel Craig, who plays 007, to bring her wit and quirkiness to the screenplay, the Observer has learned. Craig, who lives in New York with his wife Rachel Weisz, is a fan of Fleabag, which reached the end of its second and probably last series on BBC1 last Monday, and also of Killing Eve, which Waller-Bridge developed. Waller-Bridge has been in New York for the past few weeks, latterly performing in a stage version of Fleabag, which ends on Sunday. Sources close to the film in the US said that while in the country she discussed with Craig how to improve the script of Bond 25, which the 007 actor felt needed some “polishing”, by introducing more humour and the offbeat style of writing she is best known for.

At 18 years old, she is the youngest musician ever to provide the soundtrack to a Bond film. Eilish said in a statement: “It feels crazy to be a part of this in every way. To be able to score the theme song to a film that is part of such a legendary series is a huge honour. James Bond is the coolest film franchise ever to exist. I’m still in shock.” As with her debut album, 2019’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, Eilish wrote the titular song alongside her older brother and co-producer Finneas. He said that the siblings had always dreamed of writing the theme to a Bond film. “There is no more iconic pairing of music and cinema than the likes of Goldfinger and Live and Let Die. We feel so so lucky to play a small role in such a legendary franchise, long live 007.” Film producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said that Eilish’s song had been “impeccably crafted to work within the emotional story of the film”. Director Cary Joji Fukunaga described himself as a huge fan of Eilish and her brother: “Their creative integrity and talent are second to none and I cannot wait for audiences to hear what they’ve brought – a fresh new perspective whose vocals will echo for generations to come.” Eilish is the latest sign of the Bond franchise’s modernisation. Phoebe Waller-Bridge was hired to liven up the script at the request of star Daniel Craig. Industry publication Variety described the hiring of Fukunaga, known for directing the films Sin Nombre and Beasts of No Nation, and TV’s True Detective, as a “stunning and risky move”. Hans Zimmer was recently drafted in as a last-minute replacement to score No Time to Die. He replaced Dan Romer, who departed due to creative differences with the film’s production company Eon Productions. No Time to Die is released in the UK on 2 April.

Arthur Posted March 4, 2020 Author Posted March 4, 2020 New James Bond film release put back by seven months The release of the new James Bond film has been put back by seven months as coronavirus continues to spread. The producers said they had moved the release of No Time To Die from April to November after "careful consideration and thorough evaluation of the global theatrical marketplace". The announcement comes days after the founders of two 007 fan sites called on the film studios to delay its release. It will now come out in the UK on 12 November, and in the US on 25 November. No Time To Die, which is due to be Daniel Craig's final appearance as the British secret service agent, had been due for release on 3 April.
