I'm obviously using it, as I was the one to mention it in the thread!

Don't keep us in suspense! Good/bad/indifferent?

Have just had a quote for VEEAM that seemed quite high and was wondering whether to give this a go. Would probably be running full replications twice a week with maybe just the SIMS and File servers on the remaining weekdays. Is that doable?

So I've been trialling Vembu as an alternative to my working Veeam Free Edition backup, to see how it compares. Vembu does allow you to schedule backups, but once you drop from the trial to the free edition, a lot of the other features drop away (as you would expect). In the free edition, you take one backup when you set the backup job up, and then it does incremental backups from that point on. It saves the last three incrementals, and you can't choose to have additional full backups or more retention options. You can choose your own schedule from Daily, Weekly or just run once. When you restore, you can do a Quick VM Recovery, Live Recovery to Hyper-V server, File Level Recovery if you just want files from that server, or download the virtual hard drive in various standard formats.

So, it works, it does a job, and that's exactly what you would expect from a free version of a commercial product!

We use Microsoft DPM but just trialing Veeam but I'm a not that excited by it. I guess this comes from using DPM for 10 years and not knowing the Veeam product that we'll at the moment. RTFM I think!
