DJ-1701 Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Just in case anyone is wondering, Edugeek Discord appears to be down. Not sure if other Discords are affected, as no update on
Mayki5 Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Looks like a major outage to me. None if the 7 servers I am a member of are available 1
DJ-1701 Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 i've just joined It appears to be working now... at least on the Client installation. 1
somabc Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 Yeah I have looked at it but Discord has kind of made it less useful as we have the work chat in there as well right now but always happy to re-evaluate.. Oh right, I have the work chat in Slack so I want to look like I'm using that
localzuk Posted January 19, 2018 Author Posted January 19, 2018 We're up to 67 members on the Discord. The more the merrier!
Rawns Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Nice. What are people's multiplayer games of choice at the moment when on Discord?
failnator Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Nice. What are people's multiplayer games of choice at the moment when on Discord? We sort or play anything really, at the moment its mainly player unknown but we dabble in anything aslong as it looks good

mavhc Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 Or join IRC, it's much better and uses less ram, and isn't proprietary
Steve21 Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 IRC?! What is this? 1992? But does Discord have tanks?!?!? (Irony is probably someone has ported it!) Steve
mavhc Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 Exactly, IRC has been working for 26 years, longer than the web, because it does it right
synaesthesia Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 Meh, just because something has been around a long time doesn't mean it's any good; and this is coming from someone that has opered on the world's largest network for many years.
localzuk Posted July 24, 2018 Author Posted July 24, 2018 Exactly, IRC has been working for 26 years, longer than the web, because it does it right IRC is an outdated technology. You can't send gifs, movies and music without third party stuff. Its also not an accessible system for people who aren't used to it - Discord is a case of sign up, sign in and away you go.
mrbios Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 The sheer fact IRC can't do voice kind of renders the point moot Discord is primarily a mumble/ventrilo/teamspeak replacement, more than an irc replacement. It's just nice that it can do these extra bits.
sparkeh Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 Or join IRC, it's much better and uses less ram, and isn't proprietary @mavhc Oh is there an Edugeek IRC then?
mavhc Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 @mavhc Oh is there an Edugeek IRC then? I dunno, it's apparently pretty hard to use Try clicking on this: https://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=edugeek
localzuk Posted July 24, 2018 Author Posted July 24, 2018 I dunno, it's apparently pretty hard to use Try clicking on this: https://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=edugeek OK, so there is a web interface for it - still can't do all the things I listed, or voice (which gets used daily).
synaesthesia Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 Heh all these years and freenode are still using quakenet's front end
