Stop students form deleting their signatures.

Does anyone know of a way we can stop the students from deleting the signatures on their emails in outlook 2003?

Apply the signature (I assume it's a disclaimer) at the Exchange Server instead of in Outlook so it's added after they send...

That implies changing something

I'd do it the way suggested

Another way would be to use one of these horrific "classroom management" pacakges to close the change signature window as soon as it's open (recognized by window title).

thanks for the suggestions, I mean i didn't want to change the script. Like you said they can be over used. On our network its a massive overkill with them. Not my choice to use them, but if it isn't broke don’t fix it.

With that said if the scripts don't meet your needs then they need to be changed.

 

I've asked a similar question about email signatures before and I was told to do the same thing that OutToLunch said.

Changing them is totally out of the question, both me and the NM say so. They are created in such a way if something goes wrong or doesn't load it loggs the user off. If it means changing the script we won't bother with this.

What does the signature do / provide to you??? If its a generic disclaimer as has been said, despite your reluctance to change and modify, auto stamping via the mailserver is far easier and 110% guarenteed compliance from all angles.

The script won't be changed.

 

The signature has a disclaimer, states what year the student is in. If they are head boy / girl etc. The staff has their department, roles etc. The staff, student & SLT disclaimer are all different.

Sounds like this script is probably the problem, AKA someones script happy when they have had there day years ago

 

Despite the "Its not changing", that is the best way, use Exclaimer and you can utilise Active Directory to make a nice signature with it, I've done so it puts the school logo in and then pulls data from Active Directory fields such as Name, Description, Phone, Email etc. Its is very simple and the end user knows nothing about it and it works faultlessly trust me we are right on this one.

Why is it a pain, just go in, find the section and delete it, problem solved. Exclaimer you just install on the exchange box, program it and its done, took me about 4 minutes last one I did.

Because there is something some ware that logs the user off if the script does fully load. i have tried doing this and it simply wont work just keeps logging people off.

I think that script is borked then, removing a section surely if you remove it correclty from your script it should just run fine, I think you may be finding your script is the problem here from that .

I also agree, but that can't be an option i have said why. I want to lock it down in outlook some how.

Well i'm not sure what else you can do, your not taking on board peoples suggestions.

 

Either way your going to have to change something im not quite sure what your getting at, surely it will be more work to lock it down in outlook individually.

Sometimes, you just need to bite the bullet; i.e. throw away the script (or at least remove the bit relating to signatures) and set it up properly.

 

Scripts can be very clever, but unless they're properly documented can be a pain to maintain by anyone other than the original author... and even then...

 

A few hours work now could save a lot of trouble in the future.
