Bob_the_Goon Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 And... back down again!!! You beat me to it!
Wubbalubbadub Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 You can do it! Colleague has just said “my home broadband goes down less, and I only pay £23 a month!” 🤣 I had to just sit down and agree.. 1
Wubbalubbadub Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Anyone backup and running yet? Still down here :-(
Bumhug360 Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Just been told a router went down so they rebooted (first outage) then went down again so replacing it now. We have online exams at 13:30 but they have assured is it will be back up fairly soon

Katy Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 They also assure 99% uptime... 99% uptime still allows for just over 87 hours of downtime per year though.
PotNoodleTech Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 I've had three quotes from ISPs recently and all offered 99.9% uptime on the SLA. I guess the extra 0.9% works out to be quite a lot of posible downtime, especially if it is in the school working week rather than out of hours!
KevByrne Posted March 16, 2018 Author Posted March 16, 2018 Not sure what contract you guys have but I have just reviewed our proposal and the details are as follows: A "99.997% service level guarantee which allows for 12 seconds downtime per academic year" (without a DSL backup) and "100% uptime with the DSL backup (which we have). May be worth double checking your agreements.
SchoolsBroadband Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 All affected customers will now be back online following hardware swop out of an aggregation router which is used in our Lightspeed platform. Not all Lightspeed customers were affected. No Netsweeper customers were affected also and its uptime remains at 100% We'll release the outage report via the normal channels shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience caused. Dave
mjk Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 100% could be 99.5% rounded up. 99.9% or 100.0% is what you need to look for.
Blue_Cookeh Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 You guys are all pinging 8.8.8.8 - this is a bad idea and wont give you a reliable indication of your connection working. Google drop non-DNS traffic to these IP addresses often and depending on their network load.
synaesthesia Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Ours was 100% with DSL backup... meant nothing when the routers going down were taking out both though. Still, make your claims against the SLA regardless.
KevByrne Posted March 16, 2018 Author Posted March 16, 2018 Hi @Blue_Cookeh, I appreciate what you are saying although i've been using this for years and find it very reliable, I do tend to ping several sites at the same time to verify the results though. As you can see my pings to 8.8.8.8 and bbc.co.uk are in sync (both dropping packet at the same time ).
philro Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Hi @Blue_Cookeh, As you can see my pings to 8.8.8.8 and bbc.co.uk are in sync (both dropping packet at the same time ). We are the same here - Our connection has been dropping packets like this for as long as I can remember!
SchoolsBroadband Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Meanwhile on the Netsweeper platform.... Thank you. We are already on it. It's not going to stop filtering working. Dave
fiza Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Meanwhile on the Netsweeper platform.... Same as mine. You couldn't make it up could you! It's a joke!
SchoolsBroadband Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 This was fixed pretty quickly. It didn't affect any of the logs and only one of the web servers. It wouldn't have affected anyone's speeds as the web servers have nothing to do with the throughput of the proxies. Dave
Wubbalubbadub Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 (edited) Anyone else having slow speeds today? 1Mbps Down & 10Mbps up - on a 100MB Leased line On Lightspeed - Filter 14 Edited April 16, 2018 by Wubbalubbadub
KevByrne Posted April 16, 2018 Author Posted April 16, 2018 Yes we are. 10Mbps down and 30Mbps Up. 200Mb Leased Line on Lightspeed filter 17.
Wubbalubbadub Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 Yes we are. 10Mbps down and 30Mbps Up. 200Mb Leased Line on Lightspeed filter 17. I got the standard "No problem on the router, try a re-boot and if that doesn't work we will log a call with the supplier" Did you get any more insightful information?
KevByrne Posted April 16, 2018 Author Posted April 16, 2018 They tested the router and said it was getting 80Mbps out of 200Mbps. They are now escalating to the NOC team.
