newpersn Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Just applied this update to my work computer (a laptop with Windows 10 on - AMD Turion II P560 Dual-Core 2500Mhz with 3GB of RAM and a standard HDD). It took over 110 minutes... I thought I was running an update, not drying my laundry! You take 110mins to dry your smalls..... Just started to rebuild my main image... Might be a while... 1

sted Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 well it deployed ok but the start menu dosent work. i can see it but everything is greyed out and i cant click/scroll/ do anything hmm

Hopefully you have an SSD and shiney processor in yours. Thats explains why you were so quiet. Only took 15 mins on my home PC. SSD ftw. Just to confirm, if this is your main PC, the RSAT tools do need to be reinstalled again as per previous Windows 10 upgrades. 1

Cant jusifty a SSD for a laptop which only gets used for this reason... Its quick enough for me. (1st Gen i3 with 8GB Ram)

I was almost ready to start deploying Win10 as well, but this will put it on hold until I can sort it out. i havnt got cortana blocked (or at least only for pupils) it was doing this as local admin/a domain admin. i left it rebuilding not joined to the domain will see if that works Edited May 2, 2017 by sted
ADMaster Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 I updated my home PC with the update assistant this weekend it took less than 30 minutes. I downloaded the ISO from VLSC yesterday and imported it into SCCM. I just pointed the OS part of my normal task sequence to 1703 and set it to image before I left for the day. Today it was waiting at the log on legal disclaimer screen; I clicked OK and was at the normal log on screen. It appeared to remove most of the Apps, and apply all the settings I had for 1607. Cortana is back as mentioned before but hidden per my search registry tweak for 1607 Edge is pinned to the task bar where it was not in 1607 but the rest of the start layout xml worked. Some new apps are installed that were not in my remove list for 1607. I have not decided if I want to keep them or not. I’ve been reading this thread and need to have a good look though all the new gpos. Overall it looks like most of my work on 1607 will carry over. 1

It worked nicely in 1607 so I'll have to think of a workaround now.
DJ-1701 Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 Word to the wise... As part of my build process I install the full Windows 10 Education DVD then remove certain applications. It appears that this update reinstalls applications that have been stripped out previously so I have found I have to run the script to remove these apps run again post installation.
CHiLL Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 I don't know why yet, but I'm having issues with Start Menu redirection (not Start Tiles) on 1703. When the same user logs into one of our Windows 10 1607 machines, it works. When the same user logs into the 1703 machine - it doesn't. I can't seem to find any corresponding logs at the moment.

I have WMI filters set, but it should include all Windows 10 variants. Here is the filter that is applied: select Version,ProductType from Win32_OperatingSystem WHERE Version like "10%"

Downloaded the 1703 from VLSC and did a fresh build alongside a fresh 1607 build and the 1607 works but the 1703 does not. Have uploaded the latest ADMX policy files as well. Just shows the default Microsoft background.

It turns out that we had the 'Remove All Programs list from the Start menu' enabled in User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar. Despite this being enabled, it did not affect our 1607 clients in any way and they showed the Start Menu. Weird. Setting it to 'Not Configured' brought back the Start Menu items. Interestingly...I enabled the setting again and set it to 'Collapse'...logged off and back on again...and I had the missing text/language pack bug. I set it back to 'Not Configured' and the text displayed after another log off and back on. I set it back to 'Enabled > Collapse' and the text disappears again. I left the setting as 'Enabled > Collapse' and ran DelProf2 on the machine. Logging back in as the same user also has the same problem. Clearly that setting is a trigger for the missing text bug problem. Edit: As it turns out, there are quite a number of GPO settings within Start Menu and Taskbar seem to cause the missing text bug. sted Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 i havnt got cortana blocked (or at least only for pupils) it was doing this as local admin/a domain admin. i left it rebuilding not joined to the domain will see if that works even just having cortanna blocked for pupils and logging in as admin was enough apparently to break the startmenu. rebuilt it off domain but otherwise identical start menu was fine added new ous (and added all but my applocker policy it was fine added a revised applocker policy and its now fine) I hate how you don't seem to be able to undo applocker rules they appear to be set in stone once activated requiring a rebuild to fix

I wanted to look and see if there was something new I could add in an unattended xml but I can't build the catalog file. I am using the iso downloaded from vlsc and I've tried generating the catalog several ways running WSIM on the sccm server pointed to the install.wim in the share, and with it copied to the desktop running WSIM on a 1703 VM pointing back to the share and copied to the local desktop. all of the above as admin and not. I get an error that I need read / write access to the win and its folder. Thanks,

If I then try and manually log in using the same credentials provided in the sequence, it works. 1

So, at the start of the State Restore section in our task sequence I created firstly a 'Run Command Line' which does a ' powershell.exe -command "Set-ExecutionPolicy Bypass" ' - this ensures that the PowerShell script will execute, then followed up with a Powershell script that has ' %ScriptRoot%\Set-AutoLogon.ps1 ' Inside the Scripts folder of the Deployment Share, I have the following PS script called Set-AutoLogon.ps1... $RegPath = "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon"Set-ItemProperty $RegPath "AutoAdminLogon" -Value "1" -type String Set-ItemProperty $RegPath "DefaultPassword" -Value "PUT YOUR LOCAL ADMIN PASSWORD HERE" -type String Now, with any restart step we have in our sequence, the machine does log back in again and continues (we find we need to put a restart in before we attempt to install things like Adobe CS6). I already knew about the lock screen not listening to GPO but now our start menu wont even open (nor search) - however it DOES populate my taskbar with the correct icons! "allow cortana" is "not configured" so im not disabling that. Up till now I had no issues with start menu in 1607. sigh. here we go again. Edited May 23, 2017 by KK20
