We moved from Impero to Senso a few months ago now and the move has been largely positive. We were having the same black screen issues with Impero that many of you will have experienced and although that hasn't been completely resolved with Senso it's much improved.

Senso also seem to be doing a lot of work in the background to improve their product and are more than happy to listen to ideas and implement them if they make sense. I do like the fact that Senso is cloud based so we don't even have to think about rebooting a server as we all know the Impero server would need to be rebooted occasionally.

There are of course problems with Senso just like with Impero, for example we’ve noticed that if clients machines aren’t powered up for a while (2 weeks or more) than they can sometimes remain in an offline status in Senso and we may need to install the client again. We did have this with Impero but the devices would eventually connect to the server again and show online, this may be an internal network issue but as we haven’t had time to look into it fully we’re not sure.

How's the user keyword filtering compare now? What about logs? Impero website visited logs are full of rubbish now because every site loads 10 other sites

Senso allows you to exclude sites from logs if they are known to be safe. This can significantly reduce the amount of 'rubbish' that you need to sift through to find what you are looking for. I'd recommend getting in touch with them and asking for a trial. It's very simple to install and can run alongside Impero.

The logs are ok, at least with Senso we can access them, using Impero is was always a guessing game if we would be able to access them or not. Keyword filtering isn't something we have really looked at yet however we have seen a demonstration of it and it looks to be quite good.

Hi all, we have recently made the impero to senso jump (well, we are currently trialling it)

Few things:

- User accounts are not automatically created, you have to manually create them and de-activate them.

- shutdown scheduling doesn't appear to be a thing

- Automatic screen lock doesn't exist when network cable is unplugged.

- Can't set login limits anymore. Ie.. student can only login to one machine at at a time.

- No MAC Client.

To be honest, I think the price and other benefits outweigh these.. with the exception of the user creation, having to add another manual process is a game stopper for us.

Still considering, but think we may have to revert back to Impero. :(

What kind of user accounts? Staff?

I just use power profiles in Windows to set standby for 10 mins, don't need to shut down much these days.

Most of my devices are wifi, so not bothered with auto lock.

How are auto updates handled now?

Yeah, the staff accounts aren't made from AD, like impero would allow for access. Has to be made manually.

Good point with the power policy. Might take to that.

We've been testing Senso.cloud at our school. So far so good - after we had remote issues. Later to find our that because we divert our customers through a proxy server, we had to create a proxy file within the senso directory. Totally mind jam!

Mac client was one of the only things I didn't ask about at BETT - @jon-senso what's the status of that now?

Hey! Sorry for the delay there.

Senso.cloud is written in cross-platform code but we've focused on Windows and Chrome so far.

Having said that, enough customers have asked for a Mac client recently that we feel we should compile it for Mac now and we're aiming to finish off a few important things first, then do that.

At least we don't have to make a mac console as our portal is web-based so that already works on Mac etc.

Cheers.

Question regarding Senso.

Are you able to mix licenses for devices? For example, we would want the enterprise package for classroom machines, however only require the Network Cloud package for Staffrooms.

Hey.. to keep the licensing really simple, we have a set price per machine, with no tiers etc.. and no option to set licenses per machine; it would be a logistical nightmare for customers :s

Having said that, i can see the benefit, so drop us an email and we'll see what we can do for you!

Cheers.

Hi, we currently have a Senso trial. Has anyone found any recent issues that would make them hold off purchasing Senso? We would be using it for logging/safeguarding, classroom monitoring but teachers and support, web filtering and keyword detection. Nightly shutdowns and WOL would also be a bonus.

Hi JScott,

We trailed and purchased Senso last month to replace Impero. So far we are really impressed with the product and the support is outstanding. Easiest support team to contact and get a helpful response from quickly.

Nightly shutdowns - not there yet but the ability to schedule features is apparently due for release imminently so will be able to soon. You can do it at the moment just not on a schedule. Same for WOL.

So easy to deploy and use. Big recommendation from us [emoji106]

Hi JScott

I look after 15,000 devices in over 100 schools with Senso. Everything you mention is possible in Senso, plus more, and with the impending update about to drop, scheduling shutdowns and WOL will be a dream.

The response from schools to Senso has been nothing but positive. In comparison, our previous software, schools weren't interested, and it eventually never got used by teachers.

Safe guarding element is amazing for us. We have over 3000 violations today. Having the ability to spot trends really helps us support our schools. If you want to speak to me more about our setup, I'm sure the guys at Senso will put you in contact with me.

Can I make my own lists of keywords to block now? Tried it a year ago, couldn't then, just predefined lists.

Yes, two ways.... the quick way (mainly for teachers):

and the more advanced way (library system):

Is the detection libraries a new feature due to be released? I don't see this when going into our settings. Cheers

Yes, we had planned on releasing this new portal over the half term along with a new client which has scheduling and other things seen at bett, but we're running a few days late and it should be with you imminently.

Hi all

Don't forget Netsupport DNA when looking at your classroom management solutions.

It does all the features mentioned above. It can be scheduled to shut down machines end of the day, turn them back on in the morning and if they are left inactive also shut them down.

There is also the new risk index so it can spot more series triggers and prioritise them accordingly. Access to the e-safety side is also now cloud based so DSL's don't need the DNA console to see alerts. It's also possible to add new keywords to the system.
