Energy Suppliers

We've been with robin hood energy since october 15 and they've been great supplying us with gas and electric along with great prices however they are planning on putting up their prices by 17%! After speaking to them they are moving us over to their V8 policy which i guess is due out soon so our tariff is as follows..

 

Old...

Gas 3.076p

Elect 11.668p

 

New...

Gas 2.970p

Elect 13.74p

 

Standing charge remaining the same..

Gas 22.848p per day

Elect 19.9815p per day

 

After speaking to them i thought the time has come... for us to move and it seems like they have put the prices up just as we are moving into the summer months so things dont look as bad as what they are, they know what they are doing.

 

The smaller companies do look the better option so i was wondering what others are on and would you recommend them.

Ovo here, they're frankly awesome. Great pricing, easy to speak to & deal with. Smart meter installation went easily last month.

I've been with ebico for years now. They are a not for profit company and use(d) Sse to supply. No standing charge and a single tariff. Easy and cheap.

 

They have however just moved supply partners.... to Robin Hood ! So far customers seem to be in the middle of a bit of a battle between ebico and Sse with contradictory letters from both of them several times. However my gas and electric will be 4.5% less!

We are with First Utility, I found Ovo entirely useless. They accused me of giving them a false opening meter read, made up their own opening reading. This resulted in my old supplier asking me for over £1000 for gas.

 

I obviously disputed the reading and refused to pay and told them it was a complete and utter rubbish. I sent in pictures of the meter, the previous supplier sent them all my meter reading for over a year to show my reading would never be that high but Ovo wouldn't have it.

 

There customer support was useless, on the phone they were rubbish, via email it was like getting an answer from a politician, they answered a different question and asked a random one, it was like an automated robot was replying. In the end I complained to the regulator, took about 4 months to get the readings sorted and I just cancelled my Ovo account there and then, paid my final bill and went back to my previous supplier, refused to pay the cancellation charges. Didn't even get an apology from them.

 

I then moved to First Utility which was fine, but then you only know how bad a supplier is when there is a problem.

Regular email updates as to when your not on the best tariff and occasionally they do a collective switch where they negotiate preferential pricing

I'm a cheap energy club member but opted for the cheapest supplier that had decent reviews, which was So energy. The top 2 cheapest had pretty bad reviews so played it safe, still only £30 a year more. worth it I think.

Great thread I am with british gas at the mo and its expensive but I have stupid smart meter on the electric and last time I looked to jump the other suppliers wouldn't touch the smart meter.

 

Anyone have any ideas about smart meters and how to move suppliers with one?

I switched yesterday from First Utility to iSupply. I'll have to see if the huge savings promised (£250) materialise.

I've been a Scottish Power customer for about 11 years now. Every time I've checked on comparison sites it's been negligble to swap. They use a lot of renewable energy too. I always check the available tarriffs online and you can switch willy nilly.

 

I gave E-On a chance when we moved house in January, but their online stuff is awful and the bills are confusing. I tried to change our direct debit after it said we were £140 debit and it wanted to put it down to £34 a month! Now apparently we are £80 in credit after a £79 DD... so your guess is as good as mine. Awaiting the final bill. Scottish power say that they are supplying us now, but not heard anything from E-On.

I'm with E.ON, although will likely switch once the fixed term ends.

Standing charge is 10.44p per day Elec and 21.14p per day gas. With the £70 quid I got cashback, can't argue.

Yesterday I received an email from First Utility (the supplier I'm in the process of leaving), to say my direct debit was increasing to £60 per month. Today I received an email from iSupply to say my switch was complete and the direct debit will be £13 per month.

I am with scottish power and have smart meters....but....as they charge you more accuarately for what you use - won't I have cheap bills in the summer but then when winter comes - massive ones.

 

Will have to see if I can overpay in the summer to cover the winter and even it out a bit - or put aside money in the summer in my savings account (earning ME interest) and use that in the winter.

Might be worth talking to SSE. We are buying a house which currently has energy supply with Utilita, who also use an obscure smart meter that no-one else can use. SSE are sorting the meter swaps for us so that they can take over supply - no problem and no charge. It's a bit round the houses because the Utilita meters are prepay, meaning SSE have to change those for standard pre-pay meters, and then change again to standard credit meters about 10 days later.

£13 is a very cheap price.. Here's our personal projection comparing some of the cheaper companies based on our actual gas and electrical usage (rounded up tot he nearest 10) from year 2016 and there are 2 of us at home.
