How do I reserve a drive letter puely for a USB memory stick. I have a computer that has memory card slots that take up the first few drive letters and the next free letter for a drive has been mapped out as a network drive and guess what, any memory stick wants to take that drive letter. I did see something once that reserverd letters but don't know if it would work in this situation. Come on guys I know someone will have had this before.

Another nod for USBDLM - works wonders with the old network drives vs flash drives bug where Windows helpfully allocates the same drive letter to both and really pigs everything up!

Excellent! :D Just what we've been after to avoid staff coming and bugging me to death because their flash disk has been allocated a mapped letter..heh.

I find U3 drives are the biggest PITAs with regard to that, which is why I removed the U3 functions from my cruzer.

U3 is evil, especially for those with roaming profiles, as it delights in dumping a ton of U3 poop into their appdata folder, meaning I have to run my profiledeclutter script before they can log off!

usbdlm matey, reserves but doens't assigned the drives untill they're active, and allows you to allocate certian letters for usb. more details all over this forum!

I just use Windows Disk Manager. Plug the USB Stick in, and see what drive letter it has been allocated in the Disk Manager.

Completely remove the Drive letter assigned (DO NOT JUST CHANGE IT) and then re-assign it another one (eg. W, Z etc etc).

Has worked on all of the machines I have done it on...so cant be too bad ;)
