Link: Nestle's new cereal advert has a glaring error - and it's really confusing people - Mirror Online

When you make yourself a bowl of cereal in the morning, you pour the milk in after the grains, right?

Surely it's logical to add liquid to the food, so you're able to cover your Coco Pops (or other well-known breakfast brand) adequately, but not drown the puffed chocolate rice in a rippling white sea of despair?

A new Nestle advert is causing some concern. In it, three cereal varieties – Cheerios, Shredded Wheat, and Shreddies – are thrust into a pre-milked bowl...

What does Edugeek think? (I have attached a poll)

Now I think about it for me it's cereal first, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if I got it the wrong way around.

I'm going to throw a curveball:

If you're in a hurry you might want to do it simultaneously, or if you've got a bad memory you might eat the dry cereal first and then have a glass of milk.

OK I put milk in the bowl first because I have my fruit and fibre at work. My bowl and the milk is in the kitchen, my cereal in my office. I add milk to the bowl, make a brew and then go back to my office to add the flakes and eat.

This should have been a public poll so the one person who claims to put the milk in the bowl first can be known!

Not sure if I can make the poll public now. Mods can modify and reset the poll if required.

Logistical reasons are acceptable, but when both are to hand, clearly it's cereal first.

I think the correct answer is "Seriously, who gives a :censored:?". There are fair more important things to expend your brain power on than worrying about this kind of nonsense.

Gee, who wee'd in your cornflakes this morning?

I can appreciate that kind of reaction if it were being debated in the House of Lords, but we're allowed to have a bit of fun here.

Sorry, didn't mean to have a go. It's more the tone of the Mirror's article that annoyed me, I find it frustrating that journalism for a lot of publications has turned into "This happened and now twitter has exploded". There's fluff and then there's fluff and this has gone too far into the wrong direction.

However, I appreciate that this is off topic so I'll shut up now.

Is fair, I do agree with you on that one. It's not really 'news', but I can see the rationale of publishing it as a lighthearted bit of fun. (Plus, y'know, clicks = dosh)

What about porridge? It is a cereal after all. I used to eat cold porridge when I was younger - oats in the bowl and pour milk on top.

Porridge is measured, though. You have a recipe (if two ingredients can be considered a recipe) and defined values, so you need (say) 400ml of milk to 50g of oats, or something (I dunno, I don't eat porridge so I don't know what the measurements are). But in that respect adding the oats to the milk is acceptable.

Sorry your 'cold porridge' is just meusli without the interesting bits isn't it?

I'd still do the oats first

And what about sugar

before or after????

Obviously it needs to go on before - but some people actually put it on after

Some people may even put the milk in - then the cornflakes then the sugar

THIS NEEDS TO BE STOPPED

we need find these sort of people and have them all locked up for being weird - that is why these news stories are important

warning - above post may contain traces of sarcasm

Sugar on after everything else! Otherwise, the milk just washes it all away and you end up with no sugar on your cereal and a congealed overly-sweet blob at the bottom of your bowl!

Cereal --> Milk --> Sugar means the cereal above the milk is slightly wet and the sugar sticks to it, giving you an evenly distributed coating.
