Systems Manager 30-Day Trials

We’re excited to announce a new customer-initiated free trial program for Systems Manager, Cisco’s Enterprise Mobility Management solution. This program enables anyone to get started with Systems Manager right away through a more managed and supported experience, and replaces the previous SM Free 100 device program.

So that's that then.

Systems Manager 30-Day Trials

So that's that then.

I'ld like to point out that existing free users need not worry (as I did when I first read this thread ;)).

Q: What happens to customers with “SM Free 100” today?

A: There are no changes to existing “SM Free 100” accounts.

Yeah I also did when my co-worker read the thread title out loud to me!

^ This sort of thing really p1sses me off! Why not just be honest and say 'we weren't making any money by allowing 100 free devices so we've decided to charge everyone after the free trial'. Completely fed up of companies cutting or removing things and then making out the new worse option is actually better! It's almost always about money so stop treating customers like mugs and just be honest.

R.I.P. Meraki Systems Manager. You were too good to be true but looks like I need to recommend paid alternatives now :( Edited by tmoon-mint

R.I.P. Meraki Systems Manager.

Hardly RIP. It's still one of the best MDM solutions out there. Just because it's not free anymore, doesn't mean it's dead. AFAIK, it was the only vendor that offered a completely free solution which can be tied in with other network hardware such as switches, VoIP and CCTV all under one banner.

I meant for me not in general but I can see how it reads now, editing my post. I recommended it to schools (almost all primaries) because it was free and did what we needed it to do. I had a quote for the paid version some time ago and the cost was substantially higher than Lightspeed for example.

I remember when it was free with no device limit, unfortunately I signed up too late for that so got the 100 device one. They would only give me rough pricing when asked and in dollars without educational discount of $40 per year per device, wouldn't tell me what the educational discount was (??? think they wanted me to go through a reseller for that). The other thing that got me about it (at least this is how they explained it) was "up to 100 devices" = free, but if you have 101 devices you have to pay for all 101 and none of them are free. Just got to hope we stay under the 100 limit I suppose, or hope that anything over that is some sort of scheme where we can factor in £10/device/year or whatever it is into the cost.

Yeah, I'm pretty much in the same position. I signed up the 2 schools I look after because it did what I needed it to do. However, it has been a bit of a struggle with ZERO support, but I made some good contacts with Meraki at the BETT show and they have ironed out a LOT of quirks and issues. Truth be told, I was very impressed with Mobile Guardians MDM solution, but personally, I like the option of having everything under 1 managed cloud banner with just 1 support company dealing with everything. Hence why I've got "Free" MDM at one school, but also in the process of rolling out Wi-Fi, switches and may be even CCTV.

Hold the phone for a short while fellas. I was just able to click on "Create Network" instead of starting the 30 day trial. Thus far, there has been no email notification saying a 30-day trial has started and no indication that there is a trial in progress. Don't know if that's going to change, but it might be worth looking into?

Hmm I've tried the same and I have been able to create an EMM network, but what I can't do is enrol DEP devices in it. I've assigned the device to the MDM server in School Manager as normal, assigned DEP settings to the device in Meraki, erased and re-activated the device and... the configuration profile won't install on the device. After starting the 30-day trial normal service had been resumed! So my devices can be enrolled, but not DEP supervised, which we rely on.

Well I have just added a new customer to our MSP portal and it only gave me an option for a 30 day trial :(

What I've done on the 8 or so schools I've signed up for is create a generic meraki account for the initial signup, setup & enrollment. Then I make myself an admin of their organization. That's how I was able to create a network this time.

Anybody any recommendation of free / low cost primary MDM. I don't imagine we'll be finding free. If meraki is reasonable prices I'd be happen to recommend that to my primaries as we know it and the features work for us / them. Any body tried mobile guardian ?

I wonder how long before they start deprecating the SM Free 100 accounts the same way that they've done the original free unlimited accounts? I'm signed up fine, but if they stop keeping up with new iOS features, that's going to be an issue.

I really like Meraki, but I'm not sure I could justify paying for it if it came to it :/

Hmmm... interesting... thanks for sharing that @samor.

I know our Primary joined at Legacy, as it stands we currently have 77 devices registered there... looks like I better plan at looking for the best pay for solution if we get many more.

We have Systems Manager (Free <= 100 Devices) and DEP enrollment no longer works, getting the invalid profile message on all iPads.

Nice of them to let us know that this would break!

to check if youre on legacy..

When you log into meraki.. click on "organization" > "License Info" and if if says "Legacy" under system manager then you are grandfathered in.
