Desktop wallpaper?

Happy Tuesday everyone!

 

I was wondering what everyone had set as their standard desktop wallpaper (across school)? Do you have a policy in place? Do you allow students to change the wallpaper? Have you stuck with the default Windows wallpaper or set your own custom design? I'm asking as we're thinking of updating ours. Any examples would be also welcome

We use BGInfo to set all the wallpapers for all users across the whole school. Everyone has a blue background with the school logo on it, no-one can change it.

 

I think it looks far more professional in a classroom that having funny pictures of cats on the desktop showing on a projector. Been like that for 9 years now and no-one complains...

We also use BGInfo to set all wallpapers.

Normally it is a plain background with username/computer name, but we do roll out different themed ones every now and then.

We have the wallpaper branded with the school logos and colours. Everyone has the same including IT so no fall outs

We have 2 corporate wallpapers, one for Staff and one for Students so Staff can see at a glance if a student has obtained a member of Staffs credentials.

BGInfo with a small school logo and some computer support info. Then GPO to set logon backgrounds in 7, 8.1 and 10 to a nice big bold version of the logo.

We have the logon background set to an aerial view of the school with logo printed over it (but doesn't appear on most PCs as they're 10 LTSB), and once logged on the desktop is just a plain black screen. May change this in future to something similar to what @bossman has.

 

Years ago we used to have a plain magnolia (ish) background with the school crest plus "STAFF (or STUDENT) ACCOUNT" written on it.

We use BGInfo to set the wallpaper. Plain blue for all users, a darker blue for students. BGInfo also puts user and station details on the wallpaper (Station name, Username, and IP address) Users cannot change the wallpaper.

Swirly but plainish Logon background in school colour for all. Teachers/Admin staff have always been allowed their own wallpaper on "their" machines (unfortunately - but last time I complained on here about that I got shot down), Curriculum machines have similar to logon at 2 schools and at the school I have most time at they get a tiled "student" or "staff" as appropriate that the LEA used to provide that looks like a solid (different for each) colour + BGInfo.

I love the idea of having Week A/B on the desktop, is this set via Bginfo? if so how did you get it to work.

We just use a photo of the school building with a splash of colour, "$SCHOOL_NAME Network" and the school logo. The main reason we do this is so that if anything goes walkabouts (such as a school laptop) it's immediately obvious to any pawn shop/guy down't pub where it came from.

 

So as a quickly whipped-up-in-5-minutes visual demo, something like this:

Everything about this is amazing, how did you get the big SIMS icon?

 

Am guessing you use a script to change the background? As I've found Windows 10 doesn't like an updated JPEG and just caches the old one.

how did you get file explorer to pin to start menu? It must be the only thing that I can't add to the shared start menu.

Using the XML I have this for the file explorer on the start menu on Win 10:

 

 

Then inside the redirected start menu there is a shortcut to "This PC" (I think I made this on Win 8 where you could go to the desktop and right click on This PC -> Create Shortcut, doesnt seem to be an option to do that on win10). I've attached my shortcut (zipped)
